I enjoyed this book, but there was something about it that I didn't love. I'm not sure if it was because of the writing, because it was hard to tell what was true information and what wasn't. I found the story interesting and would this suggest this book to a lot of people, but I definitely wouldn't say it was one of the best

I swear, the Pulitzer is to novels what the Oscar is to film.

The gimmick here is what every seven-year-old thinks when they hear the term 'Underground Railroad.' That's it. That's the bit that makes this 'science fiction.'

The rest of the story is about an unstoppable bounty hunter who follows the protagonist from refuge to refuge committing acts of terror. It's really just so much torture porn.

I was so excited and really looking forward to reading this book after learning about all of its awards and accolades, including the Goodreads' 2016 historical fiction winner—which is my favorite genre. This is my first book by Colson Whitehead, and perhaps my last as my main problem with this book was the author's style.
