I've had Devil in the White City on my TBR for years because of my interest in true crime and history. Now, I'm slightly more interested in history than in true crime which ended up being a good thing considering how very little of H.H. Holmes you get in here.

The Devil in the White City is primarily about the 1893 Chicago Fair...of which I knew very little prior to picking up this book. And honestly? I was riveted by the fair! I thought I'd prefer the H.H. Holmes chapters more than the fair chap

Certainly well researched and that's a good thing because if it hadn't been it would have seemed impossible that these events and the building of a world's fair with so many restrictions and bad breaks could have occurred. Truth is stranger than fiction! ...more

I really appreciated the examination of Daniel Burnham, but the switches to HH Holmes, while great early in the book, become too wordy to be suspense building as the book goes on. the two histories become more and more disjointed, but I still thoroughly enjoyed this examination of the World's Fair and the people that made it happen. ...more

two stories intertwined...loved the book. The story of the construction of the worlds fair and a serial killer. The serial killer parts were fascinating to read.
