One of the reasons I love doing a golden oldie review is because I get to talk about those books that were out before I started to blog. If you follow me then you know that I only read romance. And the type of romance I enjoy is when the book has a HEA ending to it. I'm not saying they have to be married or even engaged, they just have to love each other and be together.

Naked in Death (In Death, #1) by J.D. Robb

I skipped a year but new book coming out soon so I'm relistening to several favorites in anticipation. NAKED IN DEATH ALWAYS leads the way.

2020: If I was stranded somewhere and could only have one book, it would be this one.

2019: I can't read the newest release in this series without going back to the very beginning of Eve and Roark. Definitely my chicken soup book!

2018 listen: I've lost count of the number of times I've reread or listened to this book since I originally discovered NAKE

2018 listen: I've lost count of the number of times I've reread or listened to this book since I originally discovered NAKED IN DEATH and the In Death series sometime around 2002. In fact, I revisit the book so often I don't always make note of that fact. Why? Because this is book I open when no other book holds my attention. And that was the case for this re-listen. Susan Ericksen is always a favorite narrator and when I listen to this first book, then compare it to the latest (DARK IN DEATH #45), I'm amazed that she's retained the voice characterizations through-out and additionally, the voices has grown and matured with the characters.

[2016 read] 8+ times on this book. This time, the audio version. Yes, this is my Chicken Soup book. What can I say?

The "review" below is from my 2013 reread. Things haven't changed. I've "officially" reread this book 7 times since joining Goodreads. I read it at least five times before that time. If I went back to college to get my MFA, this book would be the subject of my Masters dissertation. And even having read it so many times, I STILL find something new to wonder over, enjoy, and make note of.

NAKED IN DEATHis my "chicken soup" book. This is the book I pick up to read whenever the world crowds in too close, whenever there's not another book out there that will do. This recently happened when I finished CALCULATED IN DEATH. I searched the books waiting on my Kindle Fire. Nothing enticed me. I stood in front of my TBR shelves waiting for a book to topple off. Nada. I even dusted those books hoping something would catch my eye. My inner reader just wasn't satisfied and I knew it was time for a reread of NAKED IN DEATH. Each time I read this book, it's like I'm reading it for the first time. This series is not for everyone. Even though love is at it's core, it's not a traditional romance. It's a crime novel. A thriller. A suspense with romance. It is, in my opinion, just about perfect. And of course, now I'm having to reread all of the books at the beginning...It's such a sacrifice! *wink*
