This is my favourite book by this author so far I think. I loved the concept and the city. I found all the different types of species amazing and very original. I could read book after book set in New Crobuzon.
I couldn't, however, read book after book about the main character. Isaac came across as a very depressing and boring human. I don't know if that's just the impression I got from listening to this as an audio book or not but he just was always moaning, shouting, ranting or complaining abo ...more

DNF at 4%
As someone who loved Kraken and Un Lun Dun, I really wanted this to be a new favorite but I can't make it past the first couple chapters. This is Mieville at peak insect focused weird and even though I still love the way that Mieville crafts language, I just could not care about anything that was happening.
Obviously not rating since I made it a mere 30 pages before tapping out. ...more
