The magic system is interesting. I'm intrigued by the history of the islands and how the magic comes to be divided among them.
What didn't work for me:
1) I couldn't connect with the MC (Amora). Her heart seems to be in the right place, but while we get a lot of her thoughts, but I didn't feel like we get the soul of her character or any other defining traits that set her apart from everyone else out there.

I read this book as part of and r/Fantasy book club for the month and it was a surprisingly fun adventure read. I went into with kind of middle of the road expectations based on a few comments I had seen from people who hadn’t liked it and so it definitely exceeded those expectations.
