I'm glad I continued with the series. I read Sabriel a few years ago, and thought it was good, but I wasn't in love with it like everyone else seemed to be. My boyfriend is reading the series, so I decided to pick up book two, and I don't know if it's because this one has a magical library, or that I enjoyed Tim Curry reading the book, but I'm pleased to continue to Abhorsen.

I'm a little miffed that this one ends on a cliffhanger. Sabriel was good as a stand alone. Now I have to read The Abhorsen, but still it was a good read (or listen) and Tim Curry does a great job with the narration. I didn't realize at first that these are YA books, but nevertheless, they are quite good.

It was a good continuation of the series. I was a little surprised that it ended as abruptly as it did. I was listening to the audiobook, so I didn't have a good sense of how much time was left. I would have thought I was about halfway through. The story was good, and I liked where it was going. It's just that nothing was resolved. I realize that it is a middle volume, and the main story won't be resolved yet, but the ending still took me by surprise.

While I very much enjoyed meeting Lirael and the Disreputable Dog in this one, it just overall seemed like such a setup book rather than a book with much in it for the series. Since this originally was a trilogy, it seems like this would have more action than it did. I didn't hate it and will continue on in the series, but I didn't love it either. I will be interested to see where the series goes.
