I've enjoyed every Sanderson book I've read, but this series just isn't doing it for me. I've discovered the steampunk western is not really my thing. Loved the opening, enjoyed the magic system as always, the interactions between the characters was solid, and then the actual story started. The big fight didn't grab me, the ensuing chapters bored me, and I can't hang on the metal magic descriptions anymore, I've just had enough of it all. This book was a lot of twists and turns. It takes many components from the previous trilogy and incorporates them in pretty genius ways. I had some trouble with the middle dragging just a bit, but overall the book is so short that the action is packed in and the feeling didn't last long.
Wayne is hilarious and a welcome comical relief. I am excited to continue in this world and I definitely plan on starting Bands of Mourning right away. ...more
