What Members Thought
I've been on the lookout for epic fantasy that isn't rapey and grimdark, and this series was recommended to me.
It reads like Sullivan took his favorite elements of recent fantasy (Tolkien's elves, long lives, with long names), dwarves, added goblins instead of orcs, and of course the bog-standard Evil Church, the protagonists thief buddies, but put all these standard elements together into an entertaining story.

This book was a lot of fun -- adventure, intrigue, elves, all the stuff you want in epic fantasy. The weakest bit is that in these opening books I can't really tell the two main characters apart, but I hope this gets more developed.

This wasn't a bad book, but I found it a bit too simplistic/generic. It reminded me a lot of books that I read and loved in the '90s, but I guess I'm looking for more now. If you are tired of gritty realism, nostalgic for the fantasy of the early '90s, or looking for something for a younger reader, this might be a good series to check out.
