Shelves: contemporary, prize-winners, historical-fiction, 2016

I'm torn with how to rate this-- on the one hand, it's so beautifully written. It blows me away that Hannah Kent was only in her mid-20s when she wrote this, and I love that she's from my home town! On the other hand, it's not the most gripping book, which is always disappointing in a "mystery" novel. Had it been (more accurately) plugged as an historical fiction novel about the last female to be executed in Iceland, my expectations would have been different and I might have been less frustrated ...more
