Rating this book is sort of ridiculous. It stands by itself as one of the greatest books of the western canon. Set in a small city somewhere in czarist Russia in the mid-19th century, Dostoevsky uses the Karamazov family to wrestle with the nature of good and evil, passion and love, faith and doubt, religion and atheism, intellect and kindness.

Whether you can get through the 800 pages depends on your appetite for classic Russian sensibility, and I can understand that not everyone will be able t

11th book of 2022.

“I dislike intensely The Brothers Karamazov and the ghastly Crime and Punishment rigmarole," so Nabokov once said. I disagree with him on the latter, I think it's a brilliant novel, and I don't intensely dislike this, but Nabokov's view has allowed me to feel slightly less alone.

3.5. Often called the 'greatest book ever written', it's hard not to go in with some high hopes. It's even harder having read Crime and Punishment and loved it. The problem was, I knew this was a diff

Legit the best thing I've ever read. It's almost flawless, although the 3 chapters of prosecuting attorney resummarizing everything that happened in the novel was a bit of a slog. It was well-crafted and had everything except sane women. ...more

3.5/5 stars. The story of four brothers and how they are impacted by the sudden loss of their father under suspicious circumstances. Brilliant in its philosophies and character development; but, otherwise, dense, tedious, and repetitive at times. Despite the latter, I do not regret the month-long journey spent reading this 1,013-page tome. In short, an excellent morality tale that readers will continue to ruminate over long after the book has been shelved.

I never want to hear the Name Karamazov again. I understand that this is suppose to be this huge philosophical debate and discussion but this book was worse then getting teeth pulled.
