I had cried a lot when I read- "A fault in our stars", death and a love story when combined together brings out a suffering of its kind which one cannot escape from. So, I started "Looking for Alaska" with the some great expectations. Although the book was well-written, it could never match up my expectations. I didn't really love this book. It seemed a bit slow to me: kids smoking and drinking and talking about sex and pulling pranks.
However, the aftermath of the central incident is really powerful, especially in the way their search for truth ends. It's a really potent look at an important issue. Sorry so vague. Didn't want to spoil it.
The writing itself is very good. The characters are flawed but sympathetic—and quite interesting.
I'll read more of John Green.
