So another J. K. Rowling book after the Harry Potter series and her first adult novel to boot. This was a good book but due to broken schedule could not read continuously and also the book couldn't keep me hooked up, maybe that's what happens when you read about the read life :). As few other readers have pointed out, it seems like Rowling has taken out all her anguish and inability to use curse words in her previous works and poured it all over here. This was a really good read once I got into it! I am really glad I read some reviews before I started to read it because as other people did I had a hard time not trying to compare this book the Harry Potter series.
This is a stand alone book as it should be in a class all it's own. J.K Rowling rolled together a bunch of complex characters together that piss you off and make you almost want to cry at the same time, as only she can! The title threw me off at 1st, Casual Vacancy is not what I thou ...more

I loved Harry Potter and was looking to read JK Rowling's adult fiction.I was really dissapointed!
The story had all characters which revolved around dysfunctional families,kids smoking,rude to their parents,soured relationships and you can add everything that can go wrong in any relationship.
There was not one character which was close to being positive or happy! Im very sure that is not the definition of an adult life..
