What Members Thought
For the first half things were moving at such a glacial pace that I wondered if horror was the right genre for this book, but once things picked up(or went downhill), it was a pretty thrilling ride. Honestly I don't get scared that easily as far things of the ghost variety are concerned but for me the highlight of the book has to be the character of Jack Torrance. Could not put this down! Never have I read a 500 page book in such a short time!
A classic for sure but not my favourite Stephen King novel. Maybe it was my love for the movie that made me like the book less (usually it works the other way around for me). Mostly I just wanted the book to creep me out like the movie did but it didn't. The movie seems to pull off the "less is more" aspect of suspense in films like Jaws (the fact that you so rarely see the shark makes it all the more terrifying).
