I just finished this wonderful book over the 4th of July weekend. I truly enjoyed it and can understand why it has been on the best seller list for so long. Stockert writes with such clarity and understanding of how the lives of Skeeter, Aibilene and Minny interwine. Supporting players are well written also. I am so happy that Esther recommended it as I will!

The story is about how black maids were treated by whites during 1960's..A very good attempt at depicting the complex relationships and how simple things like expressing their own views were so difficult in those days..I loved the different characters with their shades of grey..overall a very nice read..The story touches you and you can feel the characters..their depair, hatred, love and hope..

This is a book for beach reading. It purports to be a serious book; however, it is more just fluff. Don't listen to me, however, the masses have acclaimed it to be a great book. I humbly disagree and found it full of predictable situations and southern stereotypes.
