This book was fantastic. I couldn't put it down. I was so rapped up in the lives of these women.....I felt for them. This has to be one of the best books I've read so far this year. I don't know why I waited so long to read it, but I'm glad that I finally did. I found myself wanting to cry several times while reading this, and I did cry at the end. A great read.

Amazing book. It made me laugh and it made me cry. The first day, I read 22 pages. The second day, I read 100 pages. On the third day, I read almost all day and stayed up until way after my bedtime and read 422. I couldn't stop; it was that good. The way she developed the characters made you really care about some and almost hate others. Aibelene and Minny were my favorite characters, they had insight, depth and courage in a world that was long overdue for a change.

I'm not usually a fan of audiobooks but the audiobook version of this book was fantastic. The casting for each of the characters was spot on, I was sucked into this story and did not want it to end.

The story is about how black maids were treated by whites during 1960's..A very good attempt at depicting the complex relationships and how simple things like expressing their own views were so difficult in those days..I loved the different characters with their shades of grey..overall a very nice read..The story touches you and you can feel the characters..their depair, hatred, love and hope..
