The book was well, still okay in its own way, and I may have liked a few parts too much, (particularly those moments wherein Maxon's amused with America). But the love I had for Maxon was only proprotional to the amount of annoyance I had over Aspen. Like, gods, his excuses were stupid. Blah. And though I had no problem with America whatsoever until the last part, the fact that it almost seems as if she was stringing along two guys in the end makes me feel vexed.

I really liked this book, it was a pretty light, quick read. looking forward to reading the elite. I just really love maxon, him and america's relationship was so sweet. and then uhg aspen, it seems like they're so sexual you know? like he just comes in and mauls her, even before. idk there's something fishy about him. team maxon for sure. and ew celeste, how in the hell is she in the top 6? she must really put it on when she's with maxon for him not to see what a little skeeze she is. she's got ...more

Can I just say; OhmigoshOhmigoshOhmigosh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *Jumping up and down, squealing, while tears stream down my face. Obviously in fangirl mode ;P* I have waited SUCH a long time to read this book! I loved the plot, the idea of the Selection, how the setting was..... set up. I loved the main character! America, who seems so simple, and modest, and humoristic, (is that a word?) and so.... well, normal. She wasn't stiff, self-obsessed, or mean, like some of the other girls. Obviously in fangirl mode ;P* I have waited SUCH a long time to read this book! I loved the plot, the idea of the Selection, how the setting was..... set up. I loved the main character! America, who seems so simple, and modest, and humoristic, (is that a word?) and so.... well, normal. She wasn't stiff, self-obsessed, or mean, like some of the other girls. The society is divided, with numbers representing your rank, or position. If you were a One, you were a VIP, a member of the royal family. The lower your number, the less important you were, and the less money you had. America's family were Fives; Artists. America's mom is a musician, her dad is a painter. America herself is a musician and singer. They don't make nearly enough money, and an issue that was really expressed in the book was that they never had leftovers.
So, moving on to the romance in the book. We briefly get introduced to America's secret boyfriend, Aspen. They've been dating for 2 years, secretly. Aspen is a Six, or a servant. His family gets called upon to do jobs, and get paid a meager sum. America and Aspen are afraid to come out with their relationship because their families, and society wouldn't accept it.
The prince has just turned of age, and all of the eligible young ladies are to gather for the Selection. One girl is chosen from each province, to represent them. The chosen ladies go to the castle, where they meet the prince, Maxon. From there, Prince Maxon must chose a girl to be his queen. (This whole ordeal reminded me of TV shows like the Bachelor/Bachelorette) Surprisingly, Aspen wants America to enter the Selection, because it could mean an opportunity for a better life for America's whole family. Personally, I don't think Aspen should have let America go. And to break up with her, just before she leaves? Aspen needs to swallow his pride.
I kind of like Prince Maxon better. The romance between Aspen and America was way too rushed, as can be expected from the circumstances, but it's still pretty sweet. Maxon is a funny, compassionate, and great guy, once you get through the stiff and formal mask he wears.
Honestly, the whole book seemed to pass too quickly, I think it needed to develop a bit more; but, nevertheless, I still loved it! Can't wait to read the next one! ...more

Wow. I haven't read a book this good since... Since... About a year ago. The Selection was one of the best books I've ever read. I haven't finished a book that fast since... Forever!

This book is, in my opinion, shallow. I would prefer something more deeper with more depth and disguised morals, but this book was an excellent quick read.

I have a few unanswered questions about this book, but I forgot them all so... Okay. This book was amazing. Definitely going to read the next book!

Wow, this book gets all four of my heroine shelves. I do not like the cover either.

Not really my type of book because I hate princesses and stuff like that. But It was okay, I don't think I'll read anything else like this though...I pretty much only read it because its a pretty big topic in the groups I'm in. ...more
