The Heir is the story of Princess Eadlyn the daughter of Maxon and America who found love in their own selection twenty years earlier. Over the last twenty years a lot has changed the Rebellion has been resolved, and the caste system eliminated. However people are still using the past caste system to judge others and it’s creating its own problems with people having a hard time finding jobs even having enough food to survive. As the future Queen of Illéa Eadlyn has had every opportunity living the life of comfort but she’s not the most loved of the royals because she’s so distant. While her father the king comes up with a new plan to solve the current problem he thinks the selection would be good for moral.

Eadlyn has no intentions of falling in love with one of the boys determined to stay distant and get them to leave on her own. She even convinces her parents to allow her the option to choose none of the boys as her future consort. As the selected are chosen one name will stand out that of Kile a boy she spent her whole life growing up with and she knows he’s a safe choice because neither of them think of each other that way. Eadlyn spends more time with the boys trying to make a good impression for the country as a distraction but trying not to build connections. As things get more complicated for Eadlyn tragedy strikes changing everything for the future. Will Eadlyn choose one of the boys to be her future consort? Will she be able to earn the love of her people? What will the future hold?

I wasn’t sure about Eadlyn at first she’s kind of spoiled which isn’t my favorite quality but I think by the end she redeemed herself. I think a lot of her spoiled bratty behavior had to do with the way she was raised as the future Queen and ruler of Illéa I feel that they treated her different than the boys. Maybe not intentionally but she’s so withdrawn and series while her brothers are carefree and happy. At first I wasn’t impressed with the way she handled the elimination of the guys but it makes sense since she didn’t want to be married. I love that she started to really see the guys finding qualities in each that she liked even finding that Kile isn’t the bookworm poor hygiene guy she thought he was. One of my favorite aspects of the novel is that we see characters from the prior books in the future like Aspen and Lucy who I loved in the end of The One.

The Heir is the fourth installment in The Selection series which is one of my favorite series of all time. I was very nervous to start The Heir because I’ve seen so many mixed reviews either you love it or hate it. I was impatiently waiting for this book since the announcement that it was coming and had some high expectations. I enjoyed the chance to revisit Maxon and America after all they are one of my favorite couples. I wasn’t sure about their daughter it’s kind of shocking that America could raise a spoiled brat but at least she redeems herself as the book progressed. At first I wasn’t able to but by the end I was able to connect with Eadlyn she stole my heart just like her mother did in her selection. I’m torn I don’t know which guy to root for she has some great choices which I think will be hard in the next book. The Heir is a fast paced story about a girl learning to fall in love and grow into the future Queen. Like the prior books The Heir is beautifully written it captures the heart as well as the imagination. I loved the book it’s an emotional roller-coaster that leaves me wanting more. I can’t wait for the next book to see how it will play out. The Heir exceeded my expectations one of my all-time favorite series and look at the beautiful covers they are gorgeous. I loved it!!!!! ...more
