In the first half this felt like a middle book. SLOW. Nothing really happened. Sure we have a mystery but not enough was done with it. In Throne we had a competition and murders, in this one.. dinners and kisses.

And the truth comes out!! This book was all about mystery and secrets and revelations and realizations and battles and all that amazing stuff. All with my favorite characters! Oh and the heartbreak and indecision too - can't leave them out in the cold!

Crown of Midnight is the sequel to Throne of Glass. Both are extremely good. If you like fantasy, assassins, badass heroines, and tons of suspense and mystery, this series is for you! I simply CANNOT wait for the next book to come out! I'm going to ...more

Crown of Midnight - the second book in the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas - is every bit just as perfect, emotional, shocking, and dangerous as the first.

I absolutely love this series to bits. Everything about it draws you in. The writing is phenomenal; everything is so beautifully described and the world building is sensational. The plot is obviously very well thought out and there is never a dull moment.

First of all I'm going to start by saying this book took me 3 months to read. That's insane. I don't blame the book though. When school started, I had so much work that I just barley read all together. This book gets a 3.5/5 from me raised to a 4 because the last 100 pages were amazing.

Plot:
The king gives her the name, her job is to kill them and bring back their heads. The king, his court, Dorian, Nehemia, and Chaol all believe she is doing the king’s bidding without question. If only they knew the truth. Celaena would give her victims the choice: fake their own death and flee or prepare to die. With all her assignments choosing to flee, she faked their death by stealing bodies that are dumped from the sick house. Only this assignment is different. With a rebel movement again Plot:
The king gives her the name, her job is to kill them and bring back their heads. The king, his court, Dorian, Nehemia, and Chaol all believe she is doing the king’s bidding without question. If only they knew the truth. Celaena would give her victims the choice: fake their own death and flee or prepare to die. With all her assignments choosing to flee, she faked their death by stealing bodies that are dumped from the sick house. Only this assignment is different. With a rebel movement against the King forming in his very own city, he is only given Celaena one name at a time. The only problem is, Celaena knew the name he given her and knew that there was no way Archer could be a part of the rebel movement. Giving Archer a month to tie up his loose ends, and help her track down the movement, there was something, or someone else, taking much of Celaena's time. As Dorian was nothing more than a fleeting romance, a love that cannot last. Chaol seemed to have captured Celaena's eye as more than just a friend. As their relationship moves from the captain and assassin to friends, to a lot more, Celaena is still holding a lot back from Chaol. As Celaena's past comes more into the light, the betrayal and loss of not one friend but two, and magic emerging where it is wanted the least, Celaena and her story is just getting started.
Thoughts:
Sarah Maas once again proves herself to be a talented adventure writing with the second installment in the Throne of Glass series. With captivating writing and a fast plot, this book can fly through your hands despite it being over four hundred pages long. Maas introduced a new character, Archer, that gives us background on who Celaena was before Endovier, and giving us a little bit more story to the night everything went wrong. Maas made a bit more magic in this story with a talking door knocker, witches, and power within one’s own blood. Keeping up with our main love triangle between Chaol, Dorian, and Celaena, there seems to be heavy action on the base near Chaol and Dorian, and nothing more than friendly chatter between Dorian and Celaena. As a fan of Chaol, I am rooting for him over Dorian, sorry my prince. Of all the character development that happens through this story, and there was a lot, the one that did not seem to change so much is Celaena. Where yes she had noble doings but not killing her assignments, when tasked with true treason she back out, choosing the quiet life over rebellion. Mass will shock you with the entire part two of this story, as there is heartbreak, betrayal, scheming, and lots and lots of action. With this series is nowhere near done, the underlying plot for this story is revealed a bit, but there is a lot more Mass is willing to throw your way in this series. ...more
