I've been hearing about these books since I started blogging but I just don't like assassins. I'm glad I finally read it! Celaena is not some heartless assassin and I can see why these books are so popular. She totally kicks butt!

Besides kicking butt, Celaena is a well rounded character, who likes pretty dresses and candy. She's tough but not perfect. Some people though she was arrogant but I saw it as she'd just been through a trauma and she's trying to convince herself she's still strong. (Al ...more

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Mass follows Celaena, one of the best assassins in the world. However, Celaena was captured and sent to work in a death camp, until one day she is given a shot at freedom, in which she has to win a competition to become the King’s assassin, and, after 4 years serving him, will be given her freedom.

Let me start by saying that I am so glad I picked this book up, because I loved it so much, and halfway through I decided it was one of my new favourites. Sarah J. Mass has such a talent for writing so it is so easy to get sucked into one of her books. The world building and detail of everything was absolutely incredible, and her writing is so descriptive. She really has a way of making sentences stand out and impact readers:

“The moans of agony amongst the clank of chains made a chorus as familiar as the dreary work songs they sang all day. The occasional solo of the whip added to the symphony of brutality Adarlan had created for its greatest criminals, poorest citizens, and latest conquests.”

Celaena is one of the most kick-ass characters ever. She is such a strong female character and its just awesome to read from her perspective. She also has so much depth and personality to her. Definitely a new favourite.

Chaol is also a new favourite of mine. I just want to give him a hug. From the start, I preferred Chaol to Dorian. Don’t get me wrong, I like Dorian, but I feel like Chaol understands Celaena better and has been through more in life and worked hard to get where he is. I loved Chaol and Celaena’s banter towards one another:

“Idiot,” she said, grinning now.
“Crazed criminal,” he returned, grinning, too.
“I really do hate you.”
“At least I didn’t come in eighteenth place," he said.

God they are just so cute. I also loved when she was fighting Cain and Chaol was on the sidelines telling her to get up, because he had so much faith in her and he cared about her so much. As if you couldn’t guess, I am definitely team Chaol.

Celaena’s fight with Cain was one of the most stressful things I’ve read. It went on for so long and I thought she was going to die, and he was using demons to torture her and it was so horrible. But I guessed early on that (view spoiler) so it wasn’t that big of a surprise. Also, the King needs to go. I do not like him one bit. He is power-hungry and cruel and needs to be taken down.

It took me a while to get into this book, and I'm not really sure why. I think it was just because it was the first book in a fantasy series. Once it picked up, I was very interested to keep going! I think this series has a lot of potential and I'm excited to see where it goes from here! ...more

WOW. I'm sorry I just can't speak right now I'm so amazed at the awesomeness of this book. I LOVED the different POV's and you could always tell when a new POV was starting and who it was (their name was almost always in the first sentence). I don't think I've ever read an assassin book besides the Graceling series so this was definitely a refreshing change. The way it's written, wow. And the plot was just pure perfection. TEAM DORIAN!!!!!!!

Now that that's out of the way, I loved this book. It was action packed, Celaena was kick ass and the love traingle was great! (That's not a spoiler it says on the back of the book "two men love her"). 4.5 stars!

Celaena Sardothien lost her parents at the age of 8. The king of assasins took her in and trained her to be his prodigy basically. Since then she became Erilea's most notorious assasin. Then she got caught and sent to Endovier, a death camp. Later, she is offered to c TEAM DORIAN!!!!!!!

She accepts his offer and the book takes off.

I loved the plot of this book. I like the fantasy elements like the magic and fae and the world of Erilea in general. I loved the Hunger Games feel of the competition to be the King's Champion. The book was action packed and fast paced. There was never a dull moment.

The writing was also pretty good. I usually am not too fond of third person writing because I don't connect with the main character. But Sarah J. Maas does a great job of telling the story in third person but at the same time we get to know Celaena and how she thinks.

Celaena was a great main character. She is so tough and independant. She has obviously been through a lot as a child. I really want to get the bind up of the novellas so that I can see what Celaena went through during her assasin training. Anyway she was funny, strong, kick ass and just a great person in general.

I really liked Dorian. He was so sweet and kind. At the beginning of this book, he is made out to be arrogant and a man wh**e basically. But he isn't at all. He is just a prince in his father's shadow. He can't stand up to him and I'm hoping that as this 6 book series (yay for all the books!) progresses, he will be less afraid of his father.

We don't really get to know Chaol too well in this book. I am team Dorian at this point and that is because Chaol doesn't express his feelings for Celaena. He is very reserved. I liked how protective her was at times and he is a decent guy in general but I was hoping we would get to see his persnality more in this book and we didn't. Maybe in the next book we will see more of him and Celaena together.

So this book was great. It had everything. A fantasy world, magic, two great love interests, and action all wrapped in one package. Can't wait to continue the series.

Oh my gosh. This book made my head spin!!! But in a good way. Usually I find books very predictable, because I read CONSTANTLY, but this book kept me on my toes. I came close to figuring out who was killing everyone but Cain just blind sided me. At first I was like "Oh it's Cain. Definitely Cain."
