An enjoyable read! This book made me nostalgic for college.

I have enjoyed reading fanfiction for many years (still do!). And I was very enthusiastic about it while I was a college student. So I found several pieces of Cath’s story relatable.

A couple of quotes from the book:

"All her other assignments felt like hoops she had to jump through to get to Simon and Baz"

"Her brain never really shifted out of the World of Mages. Real life was something happening in her peripheral vision."

YES! Relatable An enjoyable read! This book made me nostalgic for college.

YES! Relatable.

I thought that the idea of having pieces of the source material book, and Cath’s fanfiction works between each chapter, and sometimes within a chapter too, was really neat. However I didn’t think it was well executed. The fanfiction wasn’t very well written - I’ve read much better fanfciton online. So I feel like this book doesn’t do it justice. As much as I wanted to – I just didn’t find myself invested in Simon and Baz or their world. I think this could have been written in a way to draw readers in, but it almost read like more of a parody. That said, I’m glad that it was in the book. I just wish it was more compelling in its own right.

I found myself really enjoying Cath’s writing process. I’ve never written fanfiction (only read it), so it was like seeing behind the curtain of a writer’s process. I enjoyed seeing her working through her Fiction Writing college class and her Fanfiction writing at the same time.

I loved the scene where she is discussing “Carry On, Simon” with another student who has no idea she is the author. What a neat moment! Good fanfiction writers are like internet celebrities – and the juxtaposition between the intensity of that fame and her in ‘real life’ was interesting to see play out. She was creating something that really meant something to the people, and that scene with the reader did a good job of highlighting it.

This book touched on a good variety of college issues and did a good job with most of them. I found it to be an easy and fun read. Five stars!

I haven't completely jumped on the Rainbow Rowell train. I mean, I do like her novels - the ones that I've read anyways (Eleanor & Park, Fangirl) - but I just don't love them. I haven't made up my mind which novel I preferred to the other. Anyways, Fangirl (and Eleanor & Park for that matter) was a very okay and quite fun read to me. Not too crazy about it to spend much more time thinking about it, but I enjoyed the read.

I really enjoyed this book. I really loved how it showed many different aspects of a fangirl or fanboy's life so that anyone who loves books can relate. I gave this book a 4.5 only because I felt that it was still a little open ended. I wanted just a little bit more. I still loved it though and hope to read another book by the brilliant ms. No pude terminar de leerlo,

El personaje principal es tan soso, ridiculo. definitivamente algo que yo a pesar de ser una loca de fandoms...no creo que nunca llegaria a la altura de su comportamiento ridiculo.

definitivamente, sobrevalorado.

Creo que me dormi dos veces leyendolo.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO el personaje era demasiado odioso, inmaduro, ugh.
