Before reading Percy Jackson, i had always found Greek Mythology dull, uninteresting and pointless. However, Rick Riordan completely reinvents it, combining Greek Myths with modern life to create a hilarious result. Percy Jackson thinks he is an ordinary teenager. This book is a fun and interesting read. I was really surprised by the depth and number of Greek myth characters and folklore that Riordan managed to fit into a youth novel. I have to admit, the writing was a bit childish in parts, and distracted me on more than one occasion. However, as a teen book I think it's a wonderful fantasy novel that will draw readers in and maybe even teach them a little about Greek mythology!
