This story was okay in my opinion. I suppose the author added the main character's flashbacks to offer a deeper insight into his character and personality. However, I found this distracting and occasionally skimmed over those parts. I would have preferred to read the story in the character's present day rather than a mix back and forth. As it was, I found reading about how a certain incident reminded him of when he was a child and he and his sister... Or his friends back story and tragic relatio

I am in the minority with this book. I do enjoy the author as a writer and I tried to stick with it, but honestly the plot doesn’t move. Where is the plot? The characters didn’t grab me and was tedious to read. Count Rostov wasn’t the only one imprisoned in the Metropol Hotel, thankfully I escaped.
