Excellent review of American foreign policy in the 20th century. Focuses on Harriman, Acheson, McCloy, Kennan, Lovett and Bohlen, but also the presidents they served (FDR through Reagan), their mentors Henry Stimson and George Marshall, and their opponents, Josef Stalin and Joe McCarthy. Long read but consistently interesting. Isaacson plays some favorites dissing Zbigniew Brzezinski for undermining Cy Vance but letting Kissinger off the hook for all over his underhanded tactics.
