Usually listening to audiobooks I only listen to about an hour or so a day, drag them out for a few weeks or longer, not the case with The Day of Jackal, listened to it in two days, masterly narrated by Simon Prebble that made the 13 hours of the tale as suspenseful, and tense as the first time I read the book.

Too many quirky details and irrelevant description of weapons made this almost as unindurable as " The Dogs of War". I think the problem is that I don't like author's style. His sentences are very short and he has like 67 sentences crammed in 10 lines. Its almost like reading a report or a newspaper story.
The characters are stereotypical and once again women are shown as pawns in the game, used for sex and information before they are discarded. That is so not cool MR Forsyth. Even if you are go ...more

The day of the Jackal is one of my most favorite of all books I have read in my life and believe me I have read a lot of books in my lifetime. This is one of the first books of Frederick Forsyth that I have read. It is an amazing book that has you hooked to it right from the start.
Although I knew from the start that General Charles De-Gaul will survive but still it kept me away from food and sleep and I was unable to put the book down till I finished the nail biting finish at the end. And still ...more

The one thing that I particularly like about Frederick Forsyth's novels is that his writing is not flashy with too much fanfare of the ordinary. He writes in a very simple manner and his meticulous research always shows up in his books.
"The Day of the Jackal" was one of the most talked-about thriller ever since I stumbled onto the thrillers. A story of an Assassin to kill the President of France, 'Charles De Gaulle'.
