This book is The Terminator 2 of the book world. It surpasses its predecessor Dance of Thieves and then some in terms of rating it. It’s action packed, it has twists and turns that make your heart beat at an unnnatural pace, it’s got love - the all encompassing, soul entwined kind and by Christ, that ending. It was like watching a movie in my head. I mean the o ky word to describe it was Epic.

I literally love Jase Ballenger, he is the epitome of perfection. Firstly he’s hot. Very. He’s loyal, t This book is The Terminator 2 of the book world. I literally love Jase Ballenger, he is the epitome of perfection. Firstly he’s hot. Very. He’s loyal, to a fault, strong, stubborn, smart and he learns through his mistakes. He’s also cocky and self assured (cue internal swooning). It’s almost as though when Mary E. Pearson was writing this she had Jase and then thought ahh here’s my female character and that’s when Kazi says “Hold my beer!” Because she is Jase’s match in every way possible. Kazimyrah of Brightmist is a force to be reckoned with and although I didn’t love her in Dance of Thieves as I found her too cold and her walls too high until the end, in this book I loved her.

You know when you get asked the question “What’s your favourite book?” And sometimes it’s hard to answer because the whole series is your favourite and you can’t pinpoint which me because they all kind of progress the story? Well that doesn’t happen here with this duology. Book 1 is great. But book 2 is formidable. The story is just utterly gut wrenching and palpable throughout!

Unfortunately I can’t divulge any of the story or characters because it will give everything away but suffice to say the side characters are all brilliant. And there’s a few standouts that I’d love to fangirl over with you, but for the sake of preserving the mystery of the story for you, I won’t. There’s also some villains that are so detestable that you will want to jump into the pages and throttle them yourself!

To say this duology will give you a book hangover is an understatement. But that’s exactly why we love books like this. Because they draw is in and keep us locked within their pages, never really letting us go.

Absolutely loved it, whatever was lacking plotwise in the last instalment, this one totally made up for it, and the chemistry between the lead is still amazing. Kazi was an absolute badass in this one. The author needs to write more books and really like her writing style and character development. I don't think there was one character that I was annoyed with. ...more
