Yes, as a senior citizen, I'm a bit behind the curve with my first reading of Jane Eyre, but thanks to my book group that's reading classics this year (and Alex, whose choice it was), that deficiency has finally been rectified. And in this case, I'm sure glad it has, because Jane Eyre is wonderful, both the book and the character. She's a heroine you can root for, admire, and wish to be more like in some ways. Charlotte Bronte blew my mind away with this one! One of the most well-written books that I have ever read. It makes me gravitate towards classics again. I loved the female protagonist and the way she goes about a life preserving her self-respect and independance. But for the want for a slightly different ending, most of the book and the beautiful writing makes it a lifetime favorite of mine.
