The storyline includes a romance but I see it as being about Ethan navigating his life. His inner monologue is snarky, self-recriminating and flagellating, by turns, funny and, at moments, a bit dark. His loneliness is more than evident. Meeting Brian and muddling through to a real relationship is awkward and hard, but they make it. The second half of the book stunned me. Ethan's navigation of this new phase of his life is hard. Aaaaah, this type of romance are so rare. I love the "oh so not perfect" ordinary person who finds that special ordinary someone that completes them. I'm a little scared to read the sequel, but it was a nice change from all those perfect bodies and faces I read so much of. Beauty "is" in the eye of beholder. A 5 star read for me.
