Is the only way I can describe this book. To build such an intricate and rich world and conveying the history, traditions and culture of so many different, yet familiar, cultures in under 500 pages is a feat in itself, but in addition to that this book was filled with amazing characters, all extraordinary and flawed in very human ways.

4.5 on storygraph - feel the ending was a bit rushed, the start was also slow for me.

Otherwise loved this. Some criticisms as I dislike the idea of magical descendants being the only fix to things, but I feel the author juggled a fair few critiques around monarchy in fantasy settings (not enough for me, I demand COMPLETE ABOLITION OF THE MONARCHY RAR RAR)
