Summer of Jest

[close] Infinite Jest is 1,079 pages, which includes 96 pages of endnotes. If we officially kick-off on June 1st (the first Saturday after Memorial Day) and end September 2nd (Labor Day), that gives about 3 months. This equates to roughly 360 pages/month or 83 pages/week or 11.5 pages/day, on average (and including the endnotes). Which is not too too bad!

If you’ve started early, that’s fine. If you’re starting late, try to catch up. But I don’t think we need to be overly rigid about what officially constitutes a “summer,” or that we should try to stay in lockstep with our reading schedule, which would be impossible anyway. Let’s just dive in—whether it’s May, June, July, or even August (for speed-reading latecomers)—what matters is actually doing it and sharing something of the experience.
