I don't think there is a set way. What we did was build an outline and then we wrote the story in google documents. We'd both just write in our own color font and build off each others stuff until the chapter was done and we were both happy with it. Then we'd copy the chapter over to our manuscript and start a new google document for the next chapter.

It was a lot of fun because google doc lets you see the other person typing if you're both editing the same document. We got to make fun of each others typos and weird thought patterns.

First draft has been finished as of like ten minutes okay. It's just shy of 80,000 words. I'm pretty excited with how it's coming along.
