What do you think about this? Finding Everett Ruess: The Life and Unsolved Disappearance of a Legendary Wilderness Explorer
I have already finished the entire series and I am not sure I have all 8 in me for a second time. I do think it is your turn though. I am going to finish BR as well but goddamn it, I refuse to enjoy it.
Have you finished? I am utterly disappointed in this book so far. Thinking about looking for an audiobook version so I can finish it during my commute.
Ok, so I am a turd, and have been really busy lately with work and the holidays and such. Have you started reading yet? I am about 20% through. First impressions are that the writer wrote this book to be an anime cartoon. The relationships and conversations are ridiculous, but that could also be attributed somewhat to the translation into english perhaps.
I thought it was a little convoluted in the second half as well, but I thought it was an interesting plot, and it kept me reading. I suppose the sequel is coming out soon too at some point. As far as what is next, I might need a hot minute to think about it. I have the new book by Erik Larson about an american professor living in Germany during the rise of the third reich, but I am not sure if you would be into another Larson book. Let me stew on it a minute and I will get back to you.

Wierdness is setting in. If I am reading correctly, i am reading from the perspective of a corpse now.
Thoughts? This protagonist is one that I definitely enjoy reading about. I definitely do not loathe him as I did the last one. He seems to give no fucks.

So yeah. I read the last half of the book actively hoping for Thad to get shot in the face by an FBI agent. It is difficult for me to identify with him as a protagonist, as he is a selfish douche. I feel like Mezrich only added the shit about his parents kicking him out so that there would be SOMETHING that paints the main character in a sympathetic light, because there is nothing else to admire about a person that shits on everyone that ever took a chance on him. Again, I feel like Mezrich tried to hard to write a suspenseful book as opposed to presenting the facts in an objective manner like Krakauer. I suppose every biographical book that I read now will be graded on the Krakauer scale, but that is life. What is next?
He is absolutely a turd. He has one of the most sought after career paths in the world and flushes it completely down the toilet. He is completely self serving.e has talked to everyone in the world about the problems with his marriage, except his wife. Instead, he is planning heists, banging freshmen and enlisting them in the ranks of his criminal enterprise. Although I shouldn't be surprised that someone raised a borderline mormon fundamentalist would have skewed morals and ethics. If I had to guess, he is afraid the "persona" he has created at NASA will not be enough in the end to get him into space so he is self sabotaging his chances in order to not have to face that fact.
I am not sure if I am perhaps just spoiled by having read all of Jon Krakauer's books, but so far, I am underwhelmed by Mezrich's writing. He isn't doing a great job of getting me invested in the people he is writing about so far.
He wrote Bringing down the House about the MIT blackjack team and the social network. Both became movies. Hopefully this one is as impressive.

Seriously. The last 15% of the book or so was completely unnecessary. That aside, I really enjoyed it.
Haha i just came here to comment on the 4th wall and just how ridiculous this novel is getting. I love that they expressly mention star trek and their relation to it. Jenkins definitely figured it out a while ago, as evidenced by his comment: "stay out of the narrative." I feel like he writer has done a good job of referencing the ridiculous little nuances that happen in tv that would never happen in real life, without beating the reader over the head with them. For instance, the characters note that they are always bringing paper messages to each other instead of using their handy phones, tablets etc.
I wasn't expecting a narrative for some reason, when you described it to me. now I am interested to see where this dude takes it.
