Also the time line is all fucked up in part III. If he was headed to college in 82 and was 18 then it stands to reason that he was 41 in 2005, the year google went live. He mentions googleing something and that he is in his 30s within 2 chapters.
Another thing, why did he skip 1987-1996? Any music writer would have had a lot going on during those years.
I'm let down by this book. I read another by him called Motherless Brooklyn, it was nothing short of great.

Part three seems like it should be part 2. Part 2 seems like it should be a prologue.

I get it. Imagine a fried egg is walking down the street. What is its most nutrient rich part? THE YOLK! By taking Dylan's money they reduce him to dull as dish-water egg whites.
Hey white-boy, let me see that...

Can he really fly?!

I meant it in the sense that even in a book group we are the black-sheep participators.

Abraham is an interesting character. I wonder what he does enjoy. Even with success he seems uninterested in continuing.

I do, he is in this book group with me.

Why doesn't this kid take off? Alternatively he could tell his parents he hates living in that neighborhood. Its a good thing its the 1970's, if it took place in the current era that kid would be blasting like he lives in Colorado.
That and his neighborhood would be one of the hippest in the country.

Lets try a regular novel this time. Enjoy yourself.

I am finishing it up. Lost as the ending of LOST.
This book illustrates why I generally do not like book series. I think a series of books take one of two directions, sometimes both. The style of the writing becomes a character, and damages the narrative of the book (as evident in this book). The second thing that happens is the characters or action is watered down, just to complete the plot within a reasonable amount of time.
I shan't be reading more.
Very much looking forward to next month. We should pick a good book this time around, 4th time is a charm.

Alright I will watch the movie. Drexl Spivey is in it, I'm sold.

You didn't write that, IMDB did.

How are they detecting the mole? It has something to do with the Russian right?
This book is confusing.

Yes, British indeed. Most of the time I am not sure what is happening, or if someone is explaining something and to whom. Then I figure out that someone was talking to somebody about a thing that happened once.
Just like the British to beat around the bush; get to the point!
I guess there is a mole, and that is a bad thing...

Hi friends! Are you as excited as I am to start reading this book? Don't go crazy just yet, I have a "contact" in "the biz", and by "the biz" I mean "The Industry"; I am working on getting some kindle versions of this to distribute for us techno-philes. Give me until Monday and I will give you an update.
*Update*
Happy reading:

Sorry dude, I cannot, this material is too far out of my wheel-house. I might read about Holmes on Wikipedia, at some later date.

To answer Travis' question about the fair setting back architecture; I think that people went to the fair, thought it looked great and wanted to take part of it home. Thus when they had the opportunity to build something of their own they hired an architect that recreated elements of white city. One must remember, people first work for money, then work towards legacy.

To be honest, I gave up at 60%. I was not interested in the worlds fair, and I found the melo-drama of Holmes' life to be irritating. I tried to skip the chapters devoted to the worlds fair, but the author must have been suspicious of readers and added Holmes' personal life in those chapters as well.
I would be interested in reading similar books, however they must be more focused on the subject-matter at hand.

He definitely Paul Harvey's everyone in the Worlds Fair section. I am waiting to hear about a civil war veteran that began frying chicken on the midway to prevent spoilage; his friends called him the colonel, and now you know the rest of the story.
I also think Holmes is getting a bad wrap, taking the brunt of a bad situation. Where is he to stand up for himself? If all of my friends and loved ones abandoned me in the night I would be a bit eccentric as well. And when was the last time that you put someone over the top with public opinion by describing their adequate and prompt payment history? Debting is the only thing he seems to be guilty of.
