89836 I think 'I am Legend' is one of my favorites of all time. And I agree, this kid doesn't sound any worse than any kid in the south side of Chicago.
But it is worth noting that both groups of young men are exhibiting the same use of slang as a reflection of their preferred music styles culture. Alex sounds like a cockney douche.

89836 I also get the ultra violence thing now. So these dudes like fantasize about violence, instead of sex and money like most people. But they also act on it, maybe that is what makes them so different, lack of conscious about violence.
Is this some kind of comment on our lack of conscious about greed, race and sexism?

89836 Does your version have the 21st chapter? that would be a good discussion topic.

89836 Yeah I agree. I talk more ultra-violence in fantasy sports. Last year I told one guy I would drive all night to his house, tattoo "RAT" on his forehead and cut his head off if Eli Manning threw 2 TDs on MNF.

89836 Early on does Traunt lament worries concerning his mental state with regard to his mother's history? I think it could also be a fight club situation.
I'm going to look at the pacing of Traunt's story with respect to the movie exposition.

89836 I was thinking about this over the weekend. It seems obvious that our narrator on this tale was a maniac. Given that, and the somewhat dubious nature of the origin of the source material, does the house exist and where? (In Zampano's mind, In Traunt's reality, in Traunt's mind etc..)

Is the whole thing made up by Zampano, or the narrator? If so, why?

I bring this up because it seems the 3rd character, the editor, is indicating that not everything is adding up with Truant's take on the material. Is it possible that the editor thinks the manuscript provided by Truant was based off of content manufactured by Traunt, attributed to Zampano.
Notice that the appendix material was said to be added after the first publishing. Given the conditions of Traunt at the end of his narrative, is it possible that he would be able to supply those things years later?
Second,Zampano was said to be an old man in the apartment building in the first few pages, but he was given a different name than Zampano etc. Also his blindness seemed to come and go. He could draw and paint sometimes but not write at others.

I think that Traunt created the whole thing and invented the character of Zampano. The old man he attributed as Zampano was real but not the author.

Also, I would like to see a director make the movie, The Navidson Record, as close to the movie as outlined in the book.

89836 Did you throw this one out earlier? It does not strike up my interest. Maybe. I have concerns with this type of material, YA-reading, translated, series etc. Often if it is good enough, it will not matter in the end. Is there any Kindle version of it?
I need some convincing.

89836 The house always finds a way to get people to enter it, eventually a compelling reason would appear. I think that nearly everyone's personal house would be similar. It seems to speak to our more primitive fears, being lost, separated, ill prepared, no resources, no direction. Any advantage humans have is rendered moot.

89836 Eventually you will get to sections with like 8 words on each page. Easy speed reading.

89836 I like it when I read a book and it drawls my curriosity. The last book that did this was 'Ender's Game', I would be at work and wanting to know what Ender was up to.
Same thing with Zampano's Tome. The more I get into it, the more I feel like LOST. Constant re-examining of the same details yields further light, but fewer answers.

The most striking thing, at least personally, was an article that was cited to the Joyland Press in Wichita Kansas. An amusement park that fell into financial trouble, for the last time, after a roller-coaster rider failed to mind the sign, stood up and was decapitated. I frequented the park as a child.

They should rename this book "Addictive Heebeegeebees"

89836 That is what i do minus the Hulu. Generally I will wait and marathon a show one season at a time. As for sports I made friends with someone that has espn3 through comcast, and another friend that has NFL network.

But 2 day shipping on most things from amazon is great.

89836 I am a big, big fan of I am Legend. You should pick up Motherless Brooklyn by the guy that wrote Fortress of Solitude. I will send it as a recommendation. It is one of my favorites of all time.

89836 I like to imagine that the character that found the book and is adding footnotes etc as sounding like David Cross' Cool guy character.

89836 I like the books ending better than the movies. He is legend because a terror, brilliant.
Do you think this story is an allusion to white man's conquest of the American West?

89836 I like the vampire thing over the zombie thing. The idea that there is enough thought in the vampire to try and entice him, the torturous nature of a new world. Also it helps keep some essence of humanity in the subjects, Why always with the women?
Considering how easily genocide occurs on our planet, killing billions of zombies would not raise any moral flags. Vampires though? Ones that still know your name... Now we can separate the men from the boys. Or Germans from everyone else, as I like to say.

89836 I like it so far. Actually, I expect to like it for the duration. Zombie as a genre has blended into what Zombie was before the communist allegory was lumped in; a mindless, deadly marauder, devoid of personal meaning or conscious.
Zombie as a genre now represents more death porn, apocalypse obsessions, than anything else. It speaks to our current relationship with society; we feel there are so many individuals that ultimately obscure our obvious grit, strengths or talent.
