895766 I seek truth and understanding. I hope I’m close to those, but it’s a lifelong search.

I have looked into Christianity, Islam, Judaism and a variety of cults. See my religion bookshelf if you want to investigate yourself.

895766 Yes, I am an atheist but raised Catholic. I have come to despise the Catholic Church as an institution. I don’t find the arguments for religious belief compelling, nor have I experienced any sort of spirituality (but not for lack of trying.) Yet I also recognise the flaws in atheistic epistemology.

I have spent time investigating various religions and done my best to search for truth. I also seek to learn about philosophy, science and history and how those intersect with religion. I always question my beliefs.

895766 How long have you been learning about your religion? Did you choose your religion of your own volition, or was it because you were born into it? Have you looked into other religions?

895766 I like to consider myself logical.

The Ancient Greeks knew this stuff long before Islam. Eratosthenes worked out the Earth was round 700 years before Islam. Aristarchus said that the Earth orbits the sun 800 years before Islam.

Now I shall deal with the claims of the video.

The video says that the Quran's claims about water are extraordinary. But the first philosopher, Thales, had much the same idea about 1200 years before Islam.

The claim about iron isn't very convincing. Yes, it came from exploding stars, but so did all the elements on Earth. Did the Quran know about supernovas? If iron is not a natural part of the Earth, how do they explain iron in the human body?

As for the claim about the sky, I think they mean the atmosphere and not the sky. The reference to the Quran cited doesn't say anything about the science they referenced a moment before.

The Quran says nothing of plate tectonics. Looking on mountains as stakes is a common observation.

The claim about the expansion of the universe, like the ones on iron, the sky and mountains, appears to be coincidental.

The Quran mentions the sun and the moon orbit, but the verse cited says nothing about how the orbit goes.

The verse on waves is clearly metaphorical.

It is common to warn about lying. But talking about a forehead has no bearing on what goes on in the brain lobes or other neural activity when lying.

Feeling pain is not dependent on the skin. There are many different ways to feel pain. Pain receptors are Knowledge of torture is all that is required for writing about skin burning in hell.

If all that was revealed to Muhammad, then why didn't he initiate the Scientific Revolution in the 7th century? Instead the Scientific Revolution began in the 16th century.

895766 Interesting how you don’t mention Allah, Muhammad or anything to do with faith. Scientific facts are what you go to first. What are these scientific facts that are in the Quran?

Can we talk about how you have the earth as a circle even though the earth is flat"

Sure. Just present the evidence and invite the members of the Flat Earth Society to the discussion.

Yes, that is true. I thought it was well known that this was done.
895766 This discussion will have to be done in light of the long term historical decline of violence.

895766 All Christians believe in the Bible, the Nicene Creed, and the resurrection of Christ. Catholicism remains part of that. What about the Orthodox Church?

895766 I'm an atheist, but I have a Catholic background. I view Catholicism and Pentecostalism at different denominations of the same religion, and there are too many denominations to count. The Protestants deciding to do Christianity without the Pope is the root of much these differences.
895766 Is there any evidence to show violence increasing in line with video game sales?
