8575 I found this story this morning on yahoo! and I was wondering what the rest of you may think about this.

http://shine.yahoo.com/parenting/clos...

I personally read 105 books this year in my libraries program, and since it is system wide, I was not the only reader. I got my entries like anyone else did who read and I won a great prize, but I stood as much chance as not getting one as it was luck of the draw.

I think that any child who wants to read should be encouraged to do so and that the library over reacted.

8575 Follow up to "I Could Pee on This", this is a cute book for all dog lovers. This is poetry by dogs and I can see every dog I have ever known in it's pages. Two poems got to me. One for it's editorial and one for it's sad sweetness. "Hello" and "The Cone" were pee myself funny.

8575 I'm a day early, but I would like to ask for happy thoughts tomorrow as my grandma turns 96.

8575 We are going through my grandma's things preparing for her to go into assisted living. She has so many towels and bedding that she cannot use it all,and while a lot of is useable, it is not all that great. Too good to throw away, not good enough for charity.

I found out that my local animal shelter will take them, in good condition or not. They need the blankets for bedding and the towels for washing.

So the next time you clean out your linen closet, call you local animal shelter and see if they can use your old items.

8575 Let it go to voice mail.

I don't know what has happened to Rowling but this is yet another let down from a talented author. Her ability to create characters you care about and that are multidimensional seems to have left her in her quest to write for adults.

Cormoran Strike sounds like a lame porn star, Steven Segal character, or a bad Bond character.

8575 Alexandra Bracken has a thumping good book out. This one, for teens mind you, got so many twists past me,and we KNOW that is NOT easy to do,that I was reminded of Mira Grant or Jim Butcher. "The Darkest Minds" is the tale of a disease that either kills children or turns them into "freaks". I can't say too much without spoilers, but the kids who survive are put into camps and the after effects are....well just read the bloody thing!

8575 Going along with this topic, in Saturday's paper there was an article about a local woman who was being ordained as a Roman Catholic Priest. Yes, you read that correctly. There is a group called Roman Catholic Women Priests that help women become ordained priests. Ann Klonowski has been a teacher for the catholic schools for over 15 years and is catholic herself. She and others like her, feel that the churches policy dating back to the 12th century that allows Protestant based "men of faith" to remain married after conversion that women are also allowed to become priests.

Of course the diocese has come down on this saying that this is "hot authentically Catholic" and is "invalid and illicit."

The ordination was performed at a United Church of Christ with other leaders of other faiths in attendance.

I say good for her.

8575 The job fell through, I gained 5 pounds and a med student made me cry yesterday.

I am very likely to do a mile tomorrow.

8575 I got a job. I will start on Tuesday, and will work 2 days per week (Tues. and Thurs.). I will have 3 children 2 girls and 1 boy (in that order) 6,3,8 months. It is still sinking in.

8575 I was reading an article in yesterdays paper (my last home delivery as I know it) about N.Y. hotels are using books REAL books mind, to keep younger people in the lobbies and bars longer. The books create a cozy environment that encourages one to stay in the building and in doing so,has increased sales. Some are creating library rooms and some national motel chains are now allowing guests to check out a book in one locale and return it at another locale when they stay there in at a future time.

To me this is vindication over e-readers and Kindles proving that the written word is not as dead as they would like us to believe.

8575 If I didn't already love Nimoy, this book would have tipped it in his favor. I am a full bodied woman (I LOVE that term and embracing it fully) so I am always looking for positive images of women and men like myself not only for my advocacy group, but for myself as well. Nimoy produced a black and white art work with this book, using full bodied women, dancing, posing, and recreating some famous nude works, all while having them look at the camera. No shame, no sex,no camp, just women who are not a social norm of beauty challenging what you think beauty is, and what is, is wonderful.

8575 This will be one of my last updates for a while. As of yesterday, grandma was sitting in a chair eating breakfast when mom arrived. She will be moved today to the same facility she was originally supposed to go to on Tuesday. How long she will remain there I don't know. They may move her to another place as needed. She is officially in hospice care now.

On Tuesday, she told the nurse, " I want to die. Let me die. Unplug me." She is and was not on anything except oxygen. She said "Let me die." again while I was there, and yesterday she told her cardiologist that she was "ready to meet her maker."

I know she's tired and she has earned this, but I am hoping that she can make it to 96 next month and then slip away quietly.

Selfish I know, but still it would be nice.

8575 We are in a holding pattern now. Yesterday, I went out to see her in the afternoon and said my good-byes and let her go. By the time we left, her blood pressure was back up, she had eaten most of her dinner and was watching television. She has been designated as comfort care (which is a fancy name for hospice style) as she has a DNR. The facility that was supposed to handle her rehab said that since we are in the system already, that they can place her in their comfort care location should she need to be moved.

I told her I loved her before I left and she said, " I love you too."

Now I'm numb and crying.

8575 Rehab transfer was delayed until today. Yesterday we were told that grandma has a bad heart valve. This morning she was transferred to I.C.U. She is full of water. They said she is comfortable.

I can't stop crying.

At least the last thing I said to her was "I love you."

8575 She is going in a rehab facility today, the same one she was in last time. She said that she doesn't want to be alone anymore, so assisted living or a home aide will be the end result here. It's still very scary and nerve racking.

8575 Thank you.

Update: I talked to her cardiologist yesterday. A combination of things are going on. Age is a factor to ALL of this. She has internal bleeding, which we know, but they don't know where. To do the exploratory surgery may cause more harm, and it also nay not be fixable. She has a clogged minor artery (again, we knew this) and now has A-Fib. and related heart failure. The treatment of blood thinners will exacerbate the bleeding, and the milder ones will not prevent stroke. She should be released in a few days and should be able to go to physical rehab before coming home, but for how long she will be home, I don't know.

I fear that I will not have her much longer and I am not ready for this, not yet, not now.

8575 My grandma was admitted into the hospital yesterday. Since Monday she has had shortness of breath and swollen legs (she refused to give up playing cards Monday and Tuesday so she told my mom "let's wait and see). Mom took her to Urgent Care and they in turn called her cardiologist after running and EKG. He had her admitted. They feel it is heart failure of some type. As far as I know, as of last night, she will be fine and should be able to come home today or tomorrow. The added stress right now is that the particular hospital in question does not have a good family history as grandma lost 2 siblings there and this is also where my dad died.

The nursing home/assisted living/home health care aid discussion is up and running.

I am shell shocked, scared and barely holding it together.
