Wow! I just checked and the waiting list for me would be 6 weeks. That seems so odd since it is an older book. Oh well. Definitely don't stress about it. We don't have to operate on a specific time frame.

I have to be honest and say that this is one I might not read in October. That is simply because I have read it multiple times and just reread it within the past year again. I own the entire series and it is one of my all time favorites, if not my favorite over all.
This first book is a good introduction to Harry and some of the other main characters. Trust me, the series just gets better as it continues.
I love Harry's self-depreciating sarcasm, as well as his snark to certain others.
The audiobooks are fantastic to listen to also, but make sure that the narrator is James Marsters. He does a great job. I tried to listen to one of the books by a different narrator and it was horrid.

Oh, no! I didn't know anything was going on with your son too. I knew about your husband and your ex. Goodness, I hope things calm down some for you.
Both of the other two in this trilogy are available on audiobook through Hoopla for me, but I have them in paperback and will read them that way.

Many? I guess you mean the Valdemar as a whole since this particular series (Heralds of Valdemar) only has three. I looked on the shelf before getting it from the library thinking it might be there, but couldn't find it.

I think the narrator makes a huge difference in audiobooks. Glad this one has a good narrator. The copy I read was a paperback and small enough to handle easily for my hands, so I read it. I seem to always have one audiobook and two other books I am actually reading at a time. I just got the other two in this series from the library and was pleased to find that they were paperbacks too.

Just finished it last night and super enjoyed this one! Once again, I want to read the rest of the series, but I'm not worried about reading them immediately. That is one thing I enjoyed about this book - all along, it was kind of obvious that there would have to be more books because there was just sooo much depth and possibilities of further exploring the characters and lore of Valdemar. I totally expected the book to end on a cliffhanger, but it didn't, so if a reader wants to continue, they can but this book is totally fine to be read as a stand alone. In my opinion, this is a characteristic of a great author - to leave a reader interested and wanting more, but totally satisfied with the book just read.

I just got my copy from the library and will start reading it next week.

I am currently reading the second book titled Bloodmarked. Very good so far.

I read this two years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it then. I just finished re-reading it and it is still a fun read. Sometimes myths can be somewhat boring or too drawn out for me, but Gaiman's writing style makes it easy to read.

I think this may be my favorite of the books we have read so far! I really enjoyed the writing style, and loved how the author blended Arthurian legend with the lore of African Americans.

BTW, Susan, I put all the books in the series on my TBR list. There are a lot of them! Did you have any favorites?

I think mine would be water. I've always been a water baby. Also, according to the color preferences in the book, mine would definitely be water. I have always preferred to decorate with blues and greens, although coral is my favorite color and I use that as an accent.

Just out of curiosity, what element do you think you would associate with most, or what type of elemental would you want to have as a helper?

I had also forgotten just how very vile some of the characters are, and the whole aspect of human trafficking. Guess that has been an issue since time began.

I totally agree. I love the time frame and the elemental angle. I haven't read any of the others in the series. I would probably really enjoy them, so should add to my never ending TBR list.

I haven't. I enjoyed the books so much that I have been hesitant to watch them. I usually find myself either totally disappointed in film adaptations of good books, if not completely angry at how distorted the film version turns out.

I read this book years ago and enjoyed it then. I do have a copy, but haven't started reading it again. I will start tomorrow.

I finished it yesterday and I liked it well enough. Nothin fantastic, but not horrible. I just found it too predictable. Anyone else has any thoughts?
