50x66 Many thanks, Peter. I'll certainly keep this in mind with its interesting and unusual subject! And you mentioned "easy to read"; something too difficult will certainly daunt me.

50x66 The translation from Spanish into German looks really daunting, so I'll probably read just a few pp. at a time. Die Herrscherin von Rom: Historischer Roman

This is a 1000+ pager.
Good luck on your challenges.

50x66 This is a personal 2024 challenge. I've just obtained two novels in German, both on ancient Rome, one originally by a Spanish author, but all I could find was a German translation--no English and I don't read Spanish. The other was by an Austrian author about Vindabona [today's Vienna, where the author hails from] --in German, of course. Both novels are fairly fat, so they will certainly be challenging and probably take a while!

I checked and I believe you are right.

Congratulations! This is your...2nd or 3rd novel in German this year?"

2nd. I can always reread several I have here, though.
50x66 I've just finished Capsarius: Historischer Roman
Capsarius Historischer Roman by Jens Gerlach , A present-day German time travels to the Germania of Emperor Domitian's time.

I really liked it; in fact, I've reread it several times over the years.

I had just finished 40 days of Musa Dagh The Forty Days of Musa Dagh [in English] by the same author, really liked it and this one sounded interesting. I think the title drew me in. It's really short: just a novella.
50x66 Just finished Blassblaue Frauenschrift by Franz Werfel.

Agreed!

I hope the author writes more in this series. According to Pomponius's boss, he's coming back to Carrnuntum and should arrive soon--the next day in fact.
50x66 Just finished in the original German: Pomponius in Rom: Ein Fall für Spurius Pomponius 5. This is the 5th in a series involving Pomponius solving mysteries. The whole series in worthwhile. This one is set in the Rome of Marcus Aurelius's time [170's], but the earlier ones have been in Carnuntum [near today's Vienna.]
50x66 Definitely books in German; if I find something suitable, Italian.
