I am unfortunately not a poet. But I do pick up the pen for prose once in a while..
Glad to read others works though"

Hi Bradley, nice to meet you.

I think the enjoyment of the thing is key, whether prose or poetry, so don't hesitate to share something you come across or indeed pen yourself if you feel the muse urging.

Keep an eye here, as one way or another, I think we'll keep the pot boiling with poetry related matters (which are ultimately writing related matters of concern or interest to us all. I'll try not to be so wordy, as well!

770270 Hello to all.

I've been honored and privileged with an invitation to act as moderator here at the poetry discussion sub-group of New Authors.

Thank you GB.

Perhaps a brief introduction is in order.

I'm a long time poet/writer - free verse - almost exclusively - and a recent author, actively trying to learn about the differences between writing and authoring and between writing and being a single-author publishing house. I reside in a little place called Beechworth in Victoria (Australia).

I'm wondering if folk would mind introducing (or reintroducing) themselves? I'm interested in what poetry people like. (Long established, contemporary, experimental, free verse, rhyming . . .)

How do you define what you like? Do you actively seek it, or find poems serendipitously? Are you primarily a reader of poetry or a writer of it?

I'd love for you to share and open up a little discussion.

Regardless, it's hello from me. I'm delighted to be here and looking forward to the flow of the Poetry sub-board.

They'll be available later this morning.

Meanwhile, have a look and listen to callignee buterflies here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvfW...

770270 Just one poem, Graham, with a few parts to it.

Glad you liked it, thank you.

A bit bleak, maybe, for mothers day, but it was where my head w ed n't when thinking about it. A few years old, now.

770270 A Mother's Day Poem (sort of).

*****************************

it’s disturbing

I didn't think that I . . .

I never thought that she . . .

don't suppose I really ever thought at all
now I can't stop
chasing thoughts around and around
to nowhere

~

never a yachtsman but I’ve dreamt
of sailing away
over the waters of the bay

riding at anchor
I can see lights shining
from frankston around
to sorrento

it seems a good place to anchor
through the dark hours
while I wait for tomorrow morning

~

it's only new
the words haven't sunk in yet
and there may not be so much
it could be amenable

perhaps they'll remove it
without consequence
but the news is still so raw
she doesn't know what it might mean
fears it might be bad
they'll have to open up
for sure

and in that darkness
anything might happen

she's been told
she needs to be an optimist
but she's already practicing the word
goodbye
silently across her lips
and I don't know what to offer
in return

~

the lights fade a little
the sky lightens
my boat and I rock gentle
on the water

I don't know where we're going
but with anchor up we'll ride
anywhere the wind goes
my boat and I

as long as we can dream

Sorry grasshopper bot. I lose track of what goes where. I'll post a little something from one or other of the books. Perhaps both, to square the ledger.
