Indeed - in a pub, sitting on a chair much like the one in his portrait, leafing through a book and reading as he saw fit.
I'm on a bit of a sharing kick, today, and hope visiyors to the Poetry folder are more interested than put off - let me know. This is worth a look, IMO.
New Zealand schoolgirl's spoken-word poem about racism clocks half a million views – video https://www.theguardian.com/global/vi...
https://overland.org.au/2019/06/the-s...I should just add to my sharing of this.
As a novice poet, I spent an entire day haunting Murray's footsteps when he visited Melbourne, around Year 2000.
I went to a bit of trouble to determine his schedule and turned up front row to several readings he gave, right across the city.
He read a poem about a man weeping in Martin Place in Sydney (An Absolutely Ordinary Rainbow - http://www.lesmurray.org/pm_aor.htm) that has stayed with me, and perhaps informed some of my subsequent work.
Always worthwhile to sit at the feet of the master.
I see it is a comic novel. Such interesting genres and sub-genres being used. Thanks for the link, Catherine.
I wonder if anyone would be interested in participating in a Haiku-form round? Haiku, in the simplest of descriptions, relies on a 3 line and seventeen syllable structure, thus: 5 - 7 - 5.This round requires a participant to take the preceding last line of five syllables and add their own lines of seven and five to make a new haiku. And so on.
There is no theme and no other requirements for this exercise.
I'll start:
the gold that is sun
on the gold that is Autumn
the oak paints morning

Don't be a stranger to Poetry. I'd love to have you visit and chat."
Thanks Frank. I'll wait for the Muse ..."
I can make it easy, Beatrice. I think I'll start a Haiku round there, where each person only has to add 2 lines - seven and then five syllable. More counting than poetry.
Come and have a play (only if you want to, of course).
