75460 I appreciate your comments, very interesting takes on memory. Another thing that I found unusual is that Proust is supposedly writing as a child, yet he makes comments about a tortured mind, falling into the terrifying abyss, a sickness of uncertainty, hours of anguish etc. which strike me as being very odd thoughts for a child. How old was he at this point in the story?

75460 Started reading and can't help but think of The Memory Chalet and the comparison with Tony Judt who was also an invalid, suffering from Lou Gehrig's Disease. I was always fascinated by Judt remembering hour long speeches by mentally placing trains of thought in different areas and rooms that he would recollect as he mentally walked about his house. Proust also revisted rooms to revive his memory. As I am reading, I have a great sense of Tony Judt having read Proust's own account (before me)of being trapped in his body and identifying and receiving comfort and strength from his words.

Well then it's totally appropriate as you are seeing your world through his eyes. I should share with you some Middle Eastern recipes. :)

75460 With regard to the baking/eating of madeleines while quaint, I can't help but think of Alain De Botton's words in How Proust Can Change Your Life that: " a genuine homage to Proust would be to look at our world through his eyes, not to look at his world through our eyes."

Kalliope will likely have an idea for you."

I asked Andres on Twitter and he had these suggestions:
Translations: the 'classic' Salinas/Quiroga/Berges (Alianza Editorial), and a new and commendable translation by Carlos Manzano (Editorial Lumen).
