Dropseed: The Story of Three Sad Women by Nettie Magnan
The writing style wasn't for me, though the plot structure was great.

13 Park Lane by Naomi Clifford
A historical fiction based on a true crime. Didn't work for me, but so far, I am among the few outliers. It might work better for you, based on your reading preferences.

The Hound of Thornfield High by Colleen Alles
Quite a good YA Contemporary retelling of Jane Eyre. A nice option for the right age group.

How to Summon a Fairy Godmother by Laura J. Mayo
As fabulous as the cover! One scene left me a bit uncomfortable, otherwise, I'd have gone even higher in my rating. A great option for cosy fantasy lovers, except for the animal cruelty part.

Miss Kim Knows and Other Stories by Cho Nam-Joo
If you liked this author's seminal feminist work 'Kim Jiyoung Born 1982', you shouldn't miss her latest work, a short story collection.

The Library of Heartbeats by Laura Imai Messina
Also published as 'The Heartbeat Library'. A mellow character-driven read with some powerful themes. Don't opt for the audio version!

Silent Night by Tamara von Werthern
The second book of the Accidental Detective series. Handles almost everything better than the first book.

The Specimen by Jaima Fixsen
One of the best historical mysteries I have read in a long time. Based on true events. Haunting and gripping!

The Sea House by Louise Douglas
I wish I had known that this was the third in a series. I'd have enjoyed it even better!

The Night Counsellor by L.K. Pang
A great option for those who enjoy historical Gothic with an asylum as the setting.

Kavithri by Aman J. Bedi
The first of a planned trilogy. Adult fantasy, very dark and gruesome. Read it for the Indian connection and wasn't disappointed. (But was definitely grossed out by the gore!)

I loved this too, though it creeped the heck out of me!
Two children's illustrated fantasy books. Both spooky without being scary.1. The Firelight Apprentice by Bree Paulsen
Not as wonderful as the Garlic and the Vampire series, but still quite good.

2. Beanie the Bansheenie by Eoin Colfer
I haven't read the popular Artemis Fowl series, but if this book is any indication of the imaginativeness, I'd love to read more by this author.

Liz Hyder doesn't go wrong even when she is writing YA.
