So here's what to do:
The poll is on our group's homepage. Please scroll to the bottom of the group page where the poll is located and vote on the book you'd like to read this month. Remember, the poll closes in three days!

Also, please feel free to open a new discussion thread about any relevant topic any time you feel like it! (I think this group is set up so any member can do this, but let me know if it isn't.) Thanks again!

I didn't have any problem believing in the character's femininity, though. I didn't even think about her maleness until mentioned here. But now that folks mention it, I do see it!

For five days, through April 8, please nominate a book by any indie author. Post the book name, author, genre, and GoodReads link to the book in this discussion topic (as a reply post).
Then April 9-11, we'll have a poll with all these books to determine which one we'll read. So stay tuned!
Since last month we read a book by an author not in this group, nominations are open this month for books written by both group members and non-group members... so long as they're indies!
I'm hoping with this month, we'll fall into a routine where nominations for books will be open during the first week of the month and then the poll to select which book we read will be open at the tail end of that week.
I'm looking forward to our next read, whatever that may be!

At the end of book one, the possibilities are open. And I like that - it makes me wonder what Samantha is going to do next. I don't think we've heard the last of the Vampire hunter or Fang. And Kingsley... arooo!
How crazy would it be if her husband did a 180 and returned to her, came back crawling? But Rain made him so unlikable I don't want this to happen. :)

3/17: Okay, I've finished and I really enjoyed it also. Throughout the novel, I found myself grinning at the narrative voice Rain used. Like she'd get off on a tangent and then use a simple sentence like "Change of topic" and redirect in the next paragraph. I completely loved the voice and it enhanced Samantha's character for me.

@J.J. Good question. Right now, we don't really have any criteria, other than the book be an indie book. You can recommend a book you've not yet read but think you'd like to read and discuss, or a book that you've already read and would like to discuss for any reason.
All genres are welcome. And you don't have to recommend any book, if you don't feel compelled. (I've been in a different GR reading group for quite a while and have never nominated a book... but have enjoyed reading and discussing the books.)
After nominations, I'll set up a poll open to all group members, and the book with the most votes is the one we'll read that month. Don't know what we'll do if there's a tie. Pull a name out of a hat?
@Darlene: That's a very good idea, saying which genre it is. I'll see if I can include it as part of this month's poll, and for the next round of nominations, I'll ask folks to include that with their suggestion. Thanks!

-Nominations are open through March 7.
-If you know of an indie book you'd like to read/discuss, you may nominate 1 book by replying to this message on Goodreads. Please list the book title and author in your response.
-On March 7, I'll take all the nominations and create a poll, and we'll all get the chance to vote on which book we'd like to read. The poll will be open for several days.
About book selection:
-To be considered, the book must be an indie book!
-The book must be available on multiple platforms.
-Since this is our first book nomination, we don't have to worry about this, but at least every other month, we will read a book by an author who is not a member of this group. This month, we'e open to any indie book by any author.
Okay! I'm looking forward to getting some book nominations and hearing back from you. If you have any specific additional book selection ground rules or modifications on rules you'd like to suggest, please also let me know!
Thanks so much for sticking with this group as we get organized. I can't wait to really begin!

I think what Alicia said is very valid: "We don't want to earn anyone's disrespect by seeming self-serving. And I know we are all trying to find more readers, but maybe we can do that by attracting more to the club and just getting to know them as fellow readers."
One of the aspects about this group that I'm most looking forward to is reading some indie authors I haven't read before, reading some types of books that I might not typically read, and getting to know my fellow indie writers through the experience.
What I've heard of happening in some groups is authors recommending their own books and then abandoning the group. They were in the group for what might be considered a wrong reason. I wouldn't want to encourage that in our group, not that I'm thinking any of us would do it.
Is there some way we could set up this book selection process so we will read books by indie authors both in this group *and* not in this group and do it in a way that isn't self serving? Thoughts/ideas?

I was thinking what we could do is open the books up for nominations for a week, and during that week, each member could nominate one book by any indie author, so long as that book was available on at least Kindle and Nook. (And so long as that book was not written by the same author as the book reviewed the previous month.) After the week of nominations, we could do a poll for a week where members vote on which book they want to read. The winner of the poll gets discussed.
What do you all think about that process? What do you think about reading books by any indie author, including those in this group?
