61281 Well done you!! That's one less TBR to taunt you (at leats, that's what mine do) :D

61281 The problem with skipping is that I know with certain books, especially ones that have been translated or gone through for 'modern audiences', there are always going to be certain important bits of information that will help when reading or make some things a little clearer to the reader :( So it's a risk that I feel I can't take :S

61281 Oh no, that bit I understand.... If he were explaining about the differences between modern English and the Middle English that this was originally written in - fine - but Ed. is going off on one now... about Chaucer's family, upbringing, the politics of the world at the time... I just want to skip ahead and get to the fabulous poetry, I knew pretty much what I was being told and nowadays there's also google (yes, the ed. notes have been written recently enough for that).

61281 Congrats Denise! Also, good luck with the new book :) If you need a cheerleading group to help you on I'm sure we can scrounge a few people up *heads off to dust off pom-poms* ;D

My Chaucer is going abominably.... I'm still trying to work my way through the Editor Notes - there are LOADS of them!

61281 Stefani - I've been debating about that Orange is the New Black show... may have to put it off for a few more weeks due to previous TV shows commitments... but I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it :D
A new drama was showing itself on TV late Sunday night, Top Of The Lake, have it recorded and ready to watch - it does sound rather intriguing.

Ampa - Being Human is brilliant...even the later seasons (but I won't go into that too much, just letting you know :D)

61281 Jessica!! I'm rewatching Psych on Netflix - right from the beginning ;)

I haven't done much t watching or book reading this weekend - family was down and the weather was gorgeous. I actually tend to go outside more just to wander in the rare sunny days ;)

61281 Nickleby is finished and I am on to Chaucer!! Although this weekend has family down and me going out & about so maybe not until the week ;)
How's everyone else managing?

61281 Well good luck on the Pickwick Papers... and glad to hear you have a local author dusty.
Don't hurry through, maybe just remain a month or so behind, it's cool. We know the thought is there ;D

61281 Happy July folks! It is lovely and sunny over here, as you'd hope it would be for summer ;)

So let's kick off the month with reading a dusty by a local author :)

I've spread my net out to include all of Kent so may be able to get to the Chaucer I downloaded off gutenberg once Dickens is finished (but Dickens is also a local author so I've managed to sneak one theme over into the next, woo, go me!)

Have fun, get to know your locals and enjoy rading :)

61281 I decided, once I'd done a few rows of teaching myself the purl stitch, to undo and restart - now having an extra few days experience ;)

61281 I can proudly say that, thanks to youtube and vague memories of my grandma attempting to teach me, I have learnt the basics of knitting :D I am now getting started on a lovely red scarf... I started with 45 stitches across and now have 50 :O To think I was worried about dropping stitches and instead I'm gaining them??

61281 If she could, she would (but more like 3:45 at the moment :S) I think she just expects to be fed at a certain time, even on a Sunday morning :(

Maybe your dog could train my cat ;)

61281 Bringing back the chat here folks :D

I love talking about books and reading but my goodness, sometimes I need the opportunity to chat about something else too :D

My cat has taken to being polite when waking me up... little paw on the arm or face and a brief meow if needed. I've become such a light sleeper though that it's rarely needed nowadays (I remember when I could sleep for Britain if required) I just wish she coudl tell the time (it's a digital clock, how hard can that be ;D) before waking me up!
Although, on the plus side, I forgot to turn my alarm on for work and she woke me up before I would've been running late... she got extra cuddles for that one :P

61281 Carolyn, I did not refer to you. However, you will find that in other groups there are plenty of people on 'real vs eReader' threads that just get too personal and start fights and arguments rather than friendly debates... this is not soemthing I want to open the doors to in this group as I am a lover of both and don't understand the necessity for pitting one against the other.
So, in conclusion, I was referring to the very real fight/argument that is occurring on other groups and has been brought up many times in newspapers, magazines and other forms of mainstream media.

Lianne has apologised for her defensiveness, let's now not carry this on in the introductions thread.

Thank you.

61281 I think, after seeing so many e-reader vs book arguments in different groups, this is the reason why I don't really want to start that thread in this group. As long as you love reading and the stories in the books who cares how you do it - paper book, eFormat or audio. There's really no need to argue about another person's choice when they still share the same love as you do :D

So come on in to this loving, accepting group and clear off your dusty shelves (not a plug, not a plug... oh alright then, it's a plug!)

61281 Thank you Michelle for that lovely calming comment whilst I was lost in the world of Nickleby (it's halfway through and starting to pick up pace... finally ;D)

I could wax on about this real vs e-lit fight but find the introductions are really no place to start anything off, either with a comment that you do not see to beincendiary or as someone who does see it as 'hating'.

This is the internet, tone of voice and meanings behind comments can be difficult to ascertain.... in other words - let's not scare off the newbies! We need to lure them to the dark side first then explain that the accepting & subsequent eating of cookies (or other offered items of food) is actually a legally binding contract to this group 0;)

61281 Thank you for that Jennifer, glad to have a comic afficionado help out :)

I'm still waiting on my Deadpool :( It's been forever (well, about 2 weeks, but still!)

61281 Any chance this healthy debate can be started in a new thread, lovely ladies? Whilst interesting it has derailed this one slightly but I do want to see it carry on :)
