56640 There are so many blogs out there that review books, are there any that you recommend?
* please do not recommend your own. If you recommend your own, I am afraid it will be taken down.

56640 There are so many great websites and blogs out there to help you with your craft, that it can be overwhelming. Does anyone have any that they recommend?
* This is not a place to promote your own, in fact if you put your own up, it will be taken down.

56640 The Crecian Experiance by Elle Lapraim The Crecian Experiance

“This is Dale Green with Action News six at mid-day. There has been another death in the wave of unexplained murders sweeping the nation in the past few months. As we told you earlier, thirteen-year-old Billy Bukeford from rural Kentucky was the first victim, found dead and blindfolded in his family’s barn. An autopsy showed he had been burned from the inside. There have been several dozen similar murders since then. The latest victim was twenty-nine-year old Andrew King, who fell from a nine-story window here in Los Angeles this morning. He was also found wearing the signature blindfold. A John Minsky from Los Felize has been taken into custody as a suspect at this time. We will, of course, keep you updated as new details develop. Stay safe, Los Angeles.”

56640 So far I have just put my short stories out for ereaders. But I am wondering if readers still prefer books? I am wondering if I am missing out on a lot of readers because my stories are not in print?
I would love to hear what you prefer to read on!

Thank You Paul! I think what you had to say will really help people. Even if they have heard some of it before, it always helps to hear it again and from someone it is working for!

56640 I just read an interesting article on Joe Konraths blog.
http://jakonrath.blogspot.com/
It's all about how we are all pricing ourselves out of existence with just charging .99 cents. The women made a lot of sense. It really made me think about brining up the price of my book. We need to realize that we put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into our work and we deserve so get more out of it. I think we need to all stand together on this. What do you think?

Thanks Paul, That is helpful. I am very impressed with you sales, do you mind if I ask (for everyone on here) how long your book has been up and what kind of marketing you did for it?
I think that would be really helpful for people here.

Thanks Patricia, I think so! Having several short stories up is really interesting because you start to see what people are drawn towards. I have a new short story up and although it is doing well, my story
The Seamstresses always outsells all my other work. I think this one is the most interesting of my three as well. When people read it they really like it but it is so interesting to see what people are drawn towards and it is always a mystery why.

56640 I know this is an awkward thing to bring up, but I think it is important. We all hear the great stories of how you can make a million dollars in a year as a self-published writer, but I think it's important to have a frank discussion about how much people are really making and how many books we are really selling. Don't you?

56640 The Crecian Experiance The Crecian Experiance by Elle Lapraim

This is the first installment in a trilogy of novellas about which species are allowed to become human and how that decision can change the destiny of all who seek it.

Elliot is a Crecian police officer, stationed on earth, in order to monitor the behavior of her own kind. Crecians have been allowed to live their last lifetime as a human, but something is going horribly wrong. Crecians are dying in large numbers, burned to death by their own life force.

Elliot must come to terms with the death of her own partner in order to discover who is killing her people and why. The more she learns about the human race, the more she realizes they have made a terrible mistake.

56640 I HAVE A QUESTION:
This is for anyone who has read The HUnger Games series. I am in the middle of the first book and I can see that it is going to get really violent. SHould this kind of book really be for YA? And if so, what makes a book YA and not for adults?

56640 Here is a place where you can put the first 100 words of your piece of work. It could be a novel, short story, poem, whatever. You may put it here and the link to where someone can buy the book, that's all. (anything more will result in the deletion of the post).

I wanted to do this because I love walking thru a bookstore and reading the first few lines of books. Sometimes as inspiration and sometimes to get a feel for the book. So I thought I would make a virtual version. Enjoy!

The Colors of Qua The Colors of Qua by Elle Lapraim

She sees me. I make sure of it. For this moment, we are just two strangers, seeing each other for the first and last time. We are bound together by our stares. I get chills. It’s the one time that I get to feel…anything.

Often when they see me, they start to say something; other times they don’t. In that moment, when our eyes lock and I know we only have a few seconds together, I try to convey to them everything they need to know. That they’re not alone, that it will only hurt for a moment, and then nothing will ever hurt again.

56640 As a full time writer I write about 3,000-5,000 words a day, but I was wondering what's normal? I write short stories, not novels, so I was wondering how long it takes people to write a full length(rough draft) novel?
