532033 The Black Iris audiobook was AMAZING
(Pretty heavy subject matter and the whole book is a mindf*ck, but if you can handle it/are interested I definitely recommend!)

I also really liked the audio for ‘The Long Way to the Small Angry Planet’ (which I would argue has a subplot involving an f/f couple?)

Rumors are just ridiculous. People take one brain of truth or someone saying SOMETHING and it can just snowball.

I feel like books tend to focus on characters who also love books, which is definitely relatable, but it's a nice change of pace to see a MC so into another form of media. Especially interested how she uses that media to try to answer questions and discover things on her own

It's simultaneously one of my favorite things about this book and something I hate 😂

I'm nearing the end (again) and I remember thinking there wasn't a lot of resolution/that the ending felt abrupt. I'm wondering if it will feel the same this time

This is just a suggestion thread, so it won't necessarily just be those two choices! ☺️ and anything that isn't selected can almost certainly be a buddy-read!!

532033 I'm going to start by suggesting:
Into the Drowning Deep
Leah on the Offbeat

Sorry, Sabrien! I was just there myself. Best of luck with your sucky month!

532033 How does May 1st or 2nd? I'm almost finished with classes and should have more time to read!

532033 Please comment sapphic books you'd like to read as a group in May! Top answers by Thursday, April 26th, will go into our poll same as last month!

Small-towns represent! It's so strange how fast word gets around in these places?? Like I know so much about someone's son's new-girlfriend who I've never met. Prayer circles were where all the gossip was, tbh.

I love the exploration of Cam's sexuality! Everything from her renting specific movies to rationalizing behavior to feeling guilty felt very realistic to me. It's awful when kids are raised in environments where they aren't free to discover themselves and it's all internalized.

Ugh, this whole part gets under my skin. It's so gross. The part that really hit me the first time, and still does, if how Lydia and the other 'villains' aren't just stereotypical 'bad guys." They are awful people, but they genuinely believe they are doing the right thing?? It's really terrifying and well-written.

Posting here is fine :)

ALSO WHAT I totally missed that connection and I was OBSESSED with that miniseries growing up. I don't think I've seen her in much else, but I'm really curious to see her portrayal now.

532033 Hello everyone, would anyone be interested in reading: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo with me in May?

532033 I've been on a mental-health break for the last couple of weeks, but I'm FINALLY finishing this, and agree with you guys. It's firmly in 3-star range for me. It's fun and has a lot of good ideas, there's just a lot of DEPTH it's lacking.

Completely agree! I love how easy it is to relate to Cameron is and how deep we get inside her head. It's definitely character driven, but the MC is complex enough it works

The setting is also so well encompassed I feel like I have to put sunscreen on every time I pick up the book

I had an Extreme Teen Bible too, before I got to upgrade to one of the 'Modern Women of Faith' versions that was all purple and shiny. THAT was an exciting day at youth-group

I'm also no longer religious, but Aunt Ruth still hits me hard. She doesn't feel like a caricature, but instead like someone I'd encounter/have encountered IRL. It's very well written, even if it gets under my skin.

IIRC, Chloe Grace Moretz plays Cam, and despite the film winning at Sundance, it still hasn't been distributed??
