Good luck!"

Ah, but one's favorite used bookstores, and at times Amazon or Barnes and Noble websites can be sources for obscure S-F, I can so attest. And don't forget the Library!

As for books to get a young person started, I'd recommend the "Myth Adventures" series by Robert Lynn Asprin. Quirky characters, fantasy adventures, and almost a laugh every page. Quick reads, much fun. Also the works of Andre Norton, aimed at younger readers.

527 For a contrasting, and excellent, point of view, I would recommend "The Mists of Avalon" by Marion Zimmer Bradley. Focuses on Morgana (aka Morgan LeFay), Arthur's sister, and the mythology and spiritualism that pervades that time in history.

527 Well, I'm glad to hear from an author! I do reviews of a lot of books, many of which are given out free by the author or his/her publisher in exchange for honest reviews. I try to honor that trust. However I must add that I respect any author willing to put themselves "out there" with no financial recompense. Even in my negative reviews I try to be helpful. Thanks to all for your input.

527 James, a good friend of mine gave me the Lensman series about 15 years ago. Has had a place of honor upon my bookshelf, but sadly has gathered dust. Thanks for the reminder and a catalyst. Gonna at least get started on 'em in the next few months.

Yikes! One of my favorite "Detective Partner" pairs, Elija Bailey and R. Daneel Olivaw! Thanks for the reminder, great mystery/S-F!

527 Drew, I've downloaded "Soul Match" and will duly read and submit an honest review. Thanks for putting yourself "out there" for feedback with no compensation.

527 OK, single BEST EVER book: "The Wind in the Willows." Read it as a high school sophomore, didn't want it to end! As far as best S-F book ever, it would be a toss-up between "Stranger in a Strange Land" and Clifford D. Simak's "Way Station."
Reading Habits (22 new)

527 I tend to be reading several books at once; one to take to work, one on my Kindle for PC, as well as another, for alternating; one in the bathroom (each), one at my bedside. I also listen to audiobooks in the car. It's amazing that I finish any of them. Always have one in my hand, for standing in line, waiting rooms, etc, but especially when I accompany my spouse on her gardening/clothing/etc. shopping trips, she actually encourages me to do so and indeed has David Sedaris's most recent book of short stories in her car in case I forget my own book.
527 Hi, Sophia,

I have downloaded "The City Darkens" to my Kindle and promise an honest review, although it may be a few months before I get to it. I always appreciate authors putting their works "out there" for review with no financial recompense. Thanks again.
