We need to make sure everything is spoiler-free in this thread. It is SO easy to reveal information that others might not yet know or that gives a hint to upcoming events.

Heather, I'm not sure what you mean. Let me know what it is and how to correct it. Thanks.

Is there going to be a spoilers thread? Because I have some opinions about Davey and Dora."The spoiler thread is here:

It does seem that Anne takes her hatred of Gilbert a little to the extreme. It is not as if he constantly teased and tortured her. I was very disappointed in her ungratefulness at his timely rescue of her when her boat sank.

I am so glad that I was home when I read Chapter 25 where Matthew attempts to buy a dress for Anne and comes home with

Mayflowers seem to be important to Anne and others in Avonlea:

This is an interesting article the mentions the author:

Danielle, you never read this before? I thought every girl had read this at least once. Prince Edward Island bases much of its tourism on this book.
I knew a girl from Texas who had 10 days off and DROVE from Texas to PEI just to see the sites!

A recent CNN article gives more information about Prince Edward Island. The island's geography, gardens, ponds, shoreline have already played a part in the story of Anne.

The written images that Montgomery used to describe PEI are also wonderful. I have never been there, but I have seen the island from Nova Scotia. Nova Scotia has much of the same type of scenery, gardens and flowers, so it is easy to "see" Prince Edward Island. This is a link to some photos of the island.

I am still enjoying the world of Prince Edward Island and the impact Anne is making in this insular world. As an adult, I am appreciating Marilla and Matthew a lot more. Taking on Anne in their elderly years could not have been easy!

One inconsistency has bothered me this time. How did Anne get so knowledgeable about poetry and how did she find time to read and get an education? She sounds in chapter 5 as if she was always working before she went to the asylum and had limited access to any education. The bookcase at Mrs. Thomas' house was in reality a china closet without any books.

Has anyone gotten through the first five chapters without shedding a tear?

This thread will discuss the truly delightful book,
Anne of Green Gables. Oops, was that a spoiler? Seriously, please use this thread to discuss any aspect of the book that thrills you, disappoints you, puzzles you, etc, as long as it does not create a spoiler for those who have never read the book. If you are unsure, then please use

This is the thread that gives information about
L.M. Montgomery, the author of
Anne of Green Gables. This thread can also include any discussions about the old and new versions of films about the book. This is also the spoiler thread. Please use this thread to discuss any aspect of the book that might be a spoiler to a first time reader.

Thanks for leading the discussion, even though it probably has been discouraging. A few months ago, a book I nominated for another group "won." However, not one person other than myself made any comments. I don't even know if anyone even read my links and comments.

Welcome, Sohaib!
