I really want to read it (as in now), but since I'm 40% into Radiance I'm also afraid it might be spoilery? You can see right from the beginning that Severin is named Bysshe here, but Percival Unck is Percival Unck and the central mystery of the novel seems to the story's focus, so I think I'll have to wait til I finish Radiance - fascinated to check it out then!

I'm a huge fan of Valente's and have wanted us to read her for a long time. Radiance in particular I did find hard to get in sync with at first, despite loving its alternate-history/planetary-tinseltown world, but further along I got into its groove and am very excited to see where it goes and what the reactions are.

Our next meetup will be Monday, Jan 25.

I'd have to start a Patreon for it first, just too lazy. ;)

Yes, it was awesome to meet Guy in Suit who suspiciously looked and sounded similar to Fresno Bob....

:O :O :O :O

She mentioned at a FogCon panel this year that the complex web of stories-within-stories in The Orphan's Tales books grew organically without planning. To what degree has this been the case with her other novels?
With the AI-themed Silently and Very Fast, various short stories, and the upcoming Radiance (very excited about that!), she seems to be dipping into science fiction more often recently. Are there particular things she'd like to see done in science fiction (by herself or others)? Particular enjoyments/challenges of writing science fiction instead of fantasy?
What would she like to see done/more of in fantasy (once again, by herself or others)?

Michele, it's Mon, Oct. 26. I was delinquent adding the event, but now it's up:
>> RSVP for Oct 26 meetup

RSVP for Ann Leckie and Greg Bear at Borderlands, Sat, Oct 10, 3pm
David, the Oct meetup should be Mon, Oct 26 - I'll confirm when I have that for sure.

Next meetup is Mon, Sept 28 -

I'm sorry I didn't make it to the Walton event Sun. Anyone else make it?

Next bookclub meetup is Mon, Aug 31
RSVP for bookclub
(I won't make the Aug bookclub, that day I'll be returning from lazing at Lake Shasta.)
I also created an event for the Jo Walton receiving the Tiptree Award party on Sun, Aug 9, since it sounded like Keidy could make that during her visit and Ian sounded interested too:
RSVP for Jo Walton party

Keidy, bummer! I'll be on the lookout for any August author events we could add as S&L events.

RSVP here!
I'll likely make an meetup event for Howey as well, because heck yeah we should go to that, too.
And please feel free to add an S&L meetup for an author event in the Bay Area that you think people might be interested in. I've been focusing on Borderlands events because it's easy/convenient, but it'd be great for us to branch out and see more, and in various locations, so people who can't make SF can make other meetups.

Here's the one Veronica posted on Twitter, when we were in line for Scalzi's talk:

Evidence of even more S&L-ites in attendance: that's Sky's elbow on the left, and Andrew's beard in the center back, behind Ian.
I'm likely not going to make Bacigalupi at Borderlands today, but anyone who goes, let us know how it was!
And finally, you can now RSVP for the Mon, June 29 bookclub meetup!
