4170 Sore Damn Lazy Boys 😜

That 2690 year age gap is a bit icky though 😉

Though her being 2777 and him 87 makes it, slightly less so. 😜

She's a cougar.

I work with someone that age.

I also work with a guy who turns 80 in June. I know I won't be working in mining at 80.
4170 We should start an over 60s Sword and Laser group. 😉

John (Taloni) wrote: "So I'll say I could be the reincarnation of JFK, if reincarnation took a few months. I think that puts me just behind Tassie Dave."

I was born a month before his ex-mistress MM died.

I'm 62 .75 for those than don't want to do the maths. 😉
4170 I've always been for just selecting 16 books, whatever side of the SFF fence they fall.

Too many books, as we've found, fall into both Sword and Laser.
4170 I know I'm older than them. You I'm not sure of 😉

Sounds like The Cobra series by Timothy Zahn
4170 Paul wrote: "Thank you Ruth! It's called a doughnut... Y'know, because it's made of dough. Silly Americans and their objections to silent letters!"

I like that they are spelled differently, because an American style donut of the Dunkin's variety is not a doughnut. 🤔

Doughnuts should not be cold, covered in icing and other crap. 😜

It should be hot, straight out of the oven and have a slight coating of cinnamon and sugar.

Princess Donut is very sweet and sassy. Like an American Donut 😉
4170 Time of the Cat is written by an author who lives 3 hours drive away from me.

I didn't realize she was a Tassie girl 😎

We could have our first Tasmanian book.

Conspiracy Busted. I may have been first to nominate 2 winning books, but my record outside those 2 years is fairly ordinary.

5 of the 9 Books I nominated (or seconded) didn't make it into the brackets or past Round 1.

2016: Round 1 Loss
2017: Winner
2018: Didn’t make the cut
2019: Round 1 Loss
2020: Didn’t make the cut
2021: Semi-Finalist
2022: Semi-Finalist
2023: Winner
2024: Round 1 Loss
4170 DDC leans more into the Fantasy tropes than Sci-Fi.

It has Sci-Fi elements, but with talking animals, magic and Fantasy RPG settings.

Princess Donut will be insulted (and upset) if she doesn't win.
4170 Every time I read the blurb, I think, I've read this. Even though I know I haven't.

It sounds so familiar. I can't wait to see China's take on the City within another City trope.

I have been watching Doctor Who since I was a young boy in the 60s. I dropped off being an avid fan in the early 80s because of work, and chasing girls 😉 But I have been always been casual viewer since. I don't watch every episode, but I will watch a few episodes a season.

Tom Baker was my Doctor from age 12 to 18. So for me he is the definitive Doctor.

I also liked Jon Pertwee's Doctor. Of the Re-boots, my favourite was Peter Capaldi.

My favourite companions. Sarah Jane Smith (Elisabeth Sladen), Leela (Louise Jameson) & Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman)

I didn't pick up that that was him. In my defense, I mostly know him for his voice. He would be my favourite audiobook narrator.

I enjoyed The Gorge. It's a solid action popcorn flick and Anya is always a Joy (😉) to watch act.

3.5 stars sounds fair.

4170 That might be just "The Will of the Many" specific.

4170 I have added The Miéville Effect to the Glossary in the Sword and Laser Wiki.

https://swordandlaser.fandom.com/wiki...

Our Glossary seems a bit short. Surely there should be more we can add.
4170 Jason wrote: "I nominate Parable of talents by Octavia butler"

I would think that most of us that loved Parable of the Sower would already have read this. I read it straight after we read PotS as a book pick.

Plus with events in the real world starting to mirror PotS, it might be a bit heavy atm 😕
4170 I'd like to agree and second "The Adventures of Princess Donut, the Queen Anne Chonk”

AKA Dungeon Crawler Carl

4170 I'm guilty of it too and I put the books into the Wiki. 😜

I thought we had read China Miéville, but i was thinking of Paolo Bacigalupi's "The WindUp Girl".

I often get Seanan McGuire and Mur Lafferty mixed up too.

I can blame old age for my faulty memory. 😕

I think it's just simply a symptom of reading and discussing so many books here, that we forget what we read for the book club and what we read on our own.

I just started that today. The Gate of the Feral Gods

I am flying through the series. I am hooked. They are a blast. Quite literally at times. 😜
