We're sorry to hear that you had difficulties using the app on your iPhone. We were not aware that there was any conflict with the technology and would have provided better instructions had we known. If Goodreads does not work for you, you can always signup and record your books through the library's readsquared program. Here is the link: http://www.pclib.org/news/140-extreme-book-nerd You can also complete the program on paper. You just need to sign up at the library to receive the prize for completing the challenge.

If you have an other conflicts with the program or technology in general, we'd be more than willing to help you at the library. We're sorry for the inconvenience.

Maribeth -
We're glad you enjoyed the challenge. Opening your eyes to books you wouldn't have picked up otherwise is the goal of the challenge. Be sure to look for the 2019 edition of the Book Nerd Challenge coming January/February.

385405 Some stories are just so classic that they stand the test of time. These stories are generally recreated and retold with different time periods, locations, or characters but the story remains the same. Shakespeare's plays and fairy tales are popular stories that have been recreated, but so have Jane Austen novels and other classics. What retelling would you recommend? Be sure to mention the original inspiration.

385405 Some books are as deeply rooted in the past as they are in the present that both stories are told. What books have you experienced that are set in two different time periods? Share your recommendations here.

385405 Books with multiple narrators tell the story from different points of view. Generally each new chapter is a new narrator. Sometimes there are two different people, sometimes it's a whole cast of narrators. Either way, there's more than one person telling the story. What books with multiple narrators would you recommend?

385405 One of the best features of Goodreads is the book recommendations. Lists are tailored for you based on your preferences - what books you've given good reviews and based on your TBR list. What books does Goodreads suggest you read?

385405 Here's another personal opinion category. What book cover really speaks to you? Is it funny? Simply visually appealing with bright colors? What book are you picking up because of the cover and why? Share you recommendations and experiences here.
Graphic Novel (4 new)
Dec 13, 2017 02:50PM

385405 Graphic novels are so much more than comics and superheroes. Graphic novels are books told through pictures, ultimately in comic form, but don't be deceived. These are fully developed novels with stunning artwork and sometimes deep themes like the holocaust. Sometimes popular novels are even turned into graphic novels in order to give the story a more visual feel. What graphic novels would you recommend?
385405 Just like there are biographies and autobiographies about important people in history, there is also historical fiction that spins a real person's life into made up scenarios (generally based in fact). If you love non-fiction, here's another category in the challenge to pick up a biography. If you prefer fiction, there are a number of fascinating novels featuring historical figures. Who are you most curious to read about? Share some ideas here.
Non-fiction (1 new)
Dec 13, 2017 01:52PM

385405 While non-fiction requires to book to be factual, there are still a number of options for this category. Non-fiction isn't limited to dry history books. You can find almost any type of book in the non-fiction section from celebrity biographies, DIY, self-help books, computer or science books and so much more. Some books even read like fiction novels. What do you plan on exploring in the non-fiction section of your library?
Dec 13, 2017 01:47PM

385405 Our world is filled with diverse people and a multitude of cultures, all featured in books. You can read fiction or nonfiction to address this category. What cultures do you plan on exploring this year? Share some recommendations here.
Dec 13, 2017 01:45PM

385405 A book that scares you doesn't necessarily need to be a horror story. Maybe big books intimidate you, so a 800 page book might be a bit scary. Maybe it's a book about spiders and you have a huge phobia. What "scary" books would you recommend? Share some recommendations and experiences here.
Dec 13, 2017 01:41PM

385405 A number of insanely popular books weren't originally written in English. Their popularity ultimately led them to being translated for more people to enjoy. What books translated into English would you recommend?

385405 Is there a book that you've read before and just loved? Now's your chance to read it again. Or maybe you just read a book that was so great you know at some point you're going to read it again. That would work too. 385405 What books have you stumbled upon that have an animal on the cover? Is the animal the main focus of the cover or just in the background? Either circumstance works for this category. Share some animal cover recommendations here.
